L007 Needs a new home.
My female L007 needs re-homing as I have recently sold up. She's at least 10 years old and a great specimen. I'll try and post the thread from this website from the days when she would change colour, but she is now jet black with tiny white spots (has has been for some years now). I don't want any ...

Re: L14 Died. Help with diagnosis please.
Hi Raul. As you said, I've caused a small cycle when cleaning the sponges hence the trace ammonium/nitrite. I add a few Evolution Aqua bio balls after a filter rinse, it obviously it still takes time to get back up to speed. I think what's caused the death is possibly a very low pH. I had to do the ...

Re: L14 Died. Help with diagnosis please.
Hi Eric, thanks for your reply. The pictures were taken as soon as I removed it from the tank, so it was still alive, but only just. The night before it died, I did notice it looked a little pale, but didn't think it too unusual as I've seen lots of plecs go pale if they're spooked or a bit stressed ...

L14 Died. Help with diagnosis please.
As per the title. Sadly my L14 died this morning. I've only had it around four months. Up until two or three days ago it seemed fine. Always preferred algae wafers to meat, but both greens/meat were always on offer due to living with Discus. All water perams spot on, no problems with any other fish ...

Ideas on this Pleco anyone?
A friend has just acquired this Pleco (included with some Discus he bought). Struggling for a clear picture at the moment, but we'll try and get some better ones. Its about 3.5" long. Any ideas?

Re: pleco suggestion requested
Can't see a problem with the Sterbai (lots of Discus keepers have them in perams very similar to yours). Re the Pleco's have a browse through these and just eliminate the larger ones (and the non Plecos obviously) and see what takes your fancy. They are all suited to your temp... http://www ...

Also has a look of L095, but without the orange tinge. Eyes seem to always appear a little sunken on that species. Not a Panaque, but just a thought

Plecos have a strange ability to colour morph, have a look at this thread... http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=35868 Could be your fish is doing something similar to this (notice the black eyes on pic 3). My friend now keeps the L7 pictured on the above thread and for 18 months ...

Re: Which Pleco?
If you're worried about pleco aggressiveness towards discus, I'd go with L14. L114/600 are cheaper if that's a consideration. I wasn't too worried about aggression, as I thought they would both be okay towards the Discus, but I'm all ears if you think I may have trouble with aggression? In which ...

Re: Which Pleco?
I've now purchased a large piece of wood that will be a nice central feature, and more importantly provides a nice hiding spot. Re which Plec, Ive narrowed it down to an L14 or L114. Environment wise I think it would suit the Goldie better, but the L114's really pull my heart strings. Whichever I ...

Re: Filter cleaning
Agree with jtgrimes. You could also try setting the intakes an little higher to avoid sucking up so much wood and then siphon the 'wood drift' out daily... One 10ltr bucket should do it... Five minute job.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think it boils down to this... No hiding place, no Plec! So I'll have to explore some decor options first.

Which Pleco?
Hi all. I'm considering (research stage) adding '1' Pleco to my Discus tank. Problem is it's quite a sparce tank for ease of maintenance. I've previously kept an L007 with Discus, which on paper isn't ideal, but it thrived due to the meaty diet, so I wouldn't mind something similar (temperament/size ...

Never had a Plec eat silicone, but once had a large Scobie L14 destroy a Jewel polystyrene background.

Re: Help, My Pleco has a disease!!!
Apologies, I didn't see the link to the picture first time round. I agree with you Tagamasid, not the same condition as my L007. Your L91 really doesn't look well. As per Tagamasid asked, what's it's diet/tank mates etc? I think you need to take rapid action as the fish looks extremely ill. The ...

Re: chemicals or no chemicals that is the question
Danielle, I regard water as the single most important factor for keeping healthy fish, second to good diet. I would start, as suggested, by finding out the values of your water from the tap. This dictates how you treat it thereafter. Forinstance, I keep discus an live in the North West of England ...

Thank you for your replies. It just goes to show how there is still so much we don't understand about these fish (as with so many other species we share the planet with). I'm almost disappointed I wasn't on the verge of discovering something new... but an anomoly it shall remain. Jac, I wouldn't ...

Pleco's that change colour- morphing thread
Hello all. This is my first posting on PlanetCatfish, and although I have regularly used the site in the past I have never registered – it’s a fantastic website. In the past I have kept numerous L-numbers, but changes in circumstances etc mean I now only have one tank in which I keep discus. However, ...
