Re: Cory and smooth gravel bottom?
How hard will it be to switch out the substrates?
Given that I know nothing about your tank or what kind of gravel, etc, it's a bit hard to say. I have removed substrate with a wide syphon hose and then added the new substrate in its place. I didn't find it hard, but the bigger the substrate ...

Re: Cory and smooth gravel bottom?
On a scale of "bad" to "ideal", smooth gravel is somewhere in the middle. It also depends a bit on the size of the gravel, but corys will do best on a fine grain, smooth sand. Their natural way to look for food is "up to the eyeballs" in the substrate.

Small hairs on my clown pleco.
I have seen small hairs on my clown pleco and I was wondering what they were. Only thing I could find remotely close is something called odontoidal growth but it said its only on the tail but Fred is hairy all over.

Re: Clown pleco
Looks like Panaque maccus to me. I have four of these and they all used to look just like yours when they first arrived, yellow and very pale colored. I'm sure it was due to the stress of traveling through the mail. They love/need driftwood. Here's what they look like now: (They look darker without ...

Re: Clown pleco
I mixed in some river rocks a few weeks ago since I am getting some cory's and I don't want their barbs to get caught also its just regular white rocks in my tank
I wouldn't advise keeping Corydoras on that substrate. It is not suitable; they need sand.

Re: Clown pleco
Or is he going to become darker?
One reason why your fish is so pale is because of the light-colored substrate. The other reason is that it's probably quite uncomfortable in your tank (the coral chips you are using as substrate is making the water far too hard for its liking).
