An update. Been changing 40% water every week. The Hastatus is still dying about one a day. Now I'm left with 6 (from 50). During this period of 2 months, I lost 2 C. Melanistius and 1 C. Leucomelas which had been with me for 1+ year. Each had a big red patch on their stomach just after the gill ...

Ian

I'll keep an eye on the clean water. I may not have kept it clean enough.

As for the food, have you ever seen them feed in mid water or surface (instead of at the bottom). I'm just thinking of whether they can compete for food with other small tetras/rasboras in my next planted tank.

Thanks.

Hastatus - Easy?

What is the experience out there with keeping Hastatus? Is it easy to keep? Is there anything to watch out for? Thanks. Background: I have 50 of these C. Hastatus. 1cm + - juvenile. Was ok for the first 1-2 months. But now I'm experiencing deaths at about 1 every 2 days. They seem to look ok one ...

Chain loaches terror!

My last update:

I did put the chain loaches into my planted tank.... and they turn terrorists (!)

In particular, they like to hunt down the rummy nose tetras, but leave the koi angel, cardinals and golden algae eater alone (for now). Aren't they suppose to be nice little fellas?

After further close observation, the chain loaches are indeed going after the cory (tail, underside, pectoral). Not sure when this habit started, they were fine during in the quarantine tank (or maybe I was looking hard enough). Have removed them. Maybe they will go into my planted tank with ...

Michelle, Thanks for the description. I've noted the description as well as referenfce to the white edges. I did a 60% water change before adding the Interpet #8. The state of the fin now (after 14 hours) is the same as of last nite. So, it could be fin rot or it could be the chain loaches as ...

Coryman The hole has no white edge to it. The missing part of the fin which is in the shape of a test tube has no white edge to it. I thought it is kind of "clean" for a fin rot case. Your feedback on chain loaches is useful. I had thought of it before seeing the way loaches eat and punching little ...

Hole in fin - fin rot?

I have a 2" C. Fowleri in a 35G tank with 4 other juvenile cories (skunks, similis) and 4 juvenile chain loaches. This Fowleri has been with me for 6 weeks now. This afternoon, I've spotted a small hole (about 1-2 mm) in the center of the caudal fin. In 6 hours time, that hole has extended to the ...

Do corydoras like air bubbles?

Has anyone observe whether an airstone or air curtain would help make the corydoras more active. I don't have one yet - but thinking of getting one if the tank (i.e. cories ) can be a tad livelier. I've got a decent water movement already but the cories are only kicking during feeding. ps. I have an ...

Invalid session error when replying to a post

I cannot *reply to a post [ error is 'invalid session' ] for two days.
However, I can edit an entry I've posted earlier and also post a *new topic.

I've tried clearing cookies, use Mozilla (and IE) and same error.

Cory Behaviour in tank

I have about 32 mid size cories in a 30G tank for about 5 months. (Melanistius, Venezuelanus, Sterbai, Schwatzi, Zygatus, Pandas and Concolors, Sodalis, B.Splendens, C.Loreto, C.Surinamensis ) The tanks is filtered with Eheim 2215 with matured EHFISUBSTRAT in one compartment. The temp hovers around ...
