Re: PlanetCatfish, forums and FaceBook

I sort of like Facebook but think it can't take the place of this site. However, you could have a FB presence that could drive people over here. The purpose being to serve our whiskered fish friends and add members. I don't post more often here, because every time I want to, it makes me log in ...

Re: Sick corys, nothing helps

Im very sorry to hear about your sick Corey's. This is interesting information about the benthic zone. I use alder cones, wood and leaves but don't have a spot for the pond water that is chemical free...too much chance of lawn products here...but.something to consider if I come across any. Thx.

Re: Cory Fin Rot Quarantine? URGENT!

I would. I just QT'd my two otos because although my tank parameters were good they had some raggedy looking fins. I was shocked but put them on Maracyn 2. One more day of meds. I have no faith in Mellafix. But other people seem to like it. Good luck.

Re: New group of true C. Hastatus

It's very rewarding to see the Cory eggs become fish! I really enjoy all aspects of them. I love seeing them school. I have 28 now. About four expired here and there with no obvious reason. They were treated with dewormer, hope that fixed them. Otherwise I'll have to medicate which I prefer to avoid ...

Re: New group of true C. Hastatus

That's great! I'm trying a separate tank for the Hastatus eggs but for my pygmaeus, the breeding net was fine in another tank. I think these little monkeys thought the breeding net was a new snack dispenser. My pygmaeus eat their eggs if I leave them. The Hastatus don't eat their eggs but will eat ...

Re: New catfish tank

So lovely! Now...add a quarantine tank. No matter who you get them from, because you never know...nothing is worse than losing your fish to illness. At least ick can be seen but there are so many more that can show up later. You have a really beautiful tank!

Re: New group of true C. Hastatus

The Hastatus fry weren't surviving their parents' hunger so we removed 25 tiny little wrigglers to a special breeding box that has a flow through feature with a air stone powered drippy cup with an adjustable drip nozzle made into a fry food feeder and attached with velcro to the corner of the tank ...

Re: Help with Gulper Catfish

There are alder cones for sale on EBay and at Aquabid. In the SF Bay Area we have a person selling them through SFBAAPS. I wish my tap water PH was lower but at 8.2 I must do something to lower the PH or not keep catfish...aqua soil lowers PH but I don't think it's very good for cats...even my local ...

Re: Help with Gulper Catfish

I don't have gulpers but other corey cats...I've been told to raise temp AND medicate by fish keepers here. We have had great success with fenbenzadole sold in pet stores to deworm one's dog under the name SafeGuard, you can one tenth of a dog dose for ten gallons of water. There's lots of info on ...

Re: When to Worry??

I have high PH water. I started using Mosura PH down (one that I bought for my shrimp tank to make it 6.4 on Ebay.) My Corey's are happy and breeding. I think 8.2 too is too high for your fish. I hope you can save it!

Re: Sick Corys with spiny growths

If I recall correctly Kanamycin isn't supposed to be used with other meds at the same time, at least thats what mine said...I waited thinking my Oto had scraped his back. It started out as a small white spot. He died. I don't see how it will improve without medication but mine might have died either ...

Re: Sick Corys with spiny growths

I transferred mine because most meds are in doses for ten gallons and I had a ten gallon tank for QT, the other fish never caught it but i didn't add fish to that tank for a year to be safe. Columnaris was my suspicion. I lost an Otto with it and a panda. My other panda was asymptomatic but since I ...

Re: Sick Corys with spiny growths

There are many people here that know more than I. Please jump in! You need to add fresh clean water weekly, at least 20-30 percent of your tank matching tank parameters as best as you can. I like aged water from the Tap and I always use Prime. Vacuum the bottom and really get into the corners each ...

Re: Recovery advice needed post "toxic" H2O change

Hi, I see you are in the Bay area... are you in SFBAAPS? If not you can join and Diana Kostnik can give you far better advice than I can. Or someone else here although in general a lot of the sick fish questions don't get as much response, probably bc people are hesitant to tell something that might ...
