You could try a deionising unit which wastes no water. They don't last as long as an RO unit but gives water of comparable purity. Another plus is that they are much cheaper. I use one to make up water for a marine aquarium and it works fine. It you are going to buy a RO unit make sure it has an ...

THis is the phone number for Maidenhead aquatics at cardiff. The last time I was there they had the syno, but that was about 3 weeks ago. (029)20842666 I bought a 1 inch S. Angelicus from there for £35, most of the time they tend to be quite expensive but not this time. Some of the staff cann't t ...

Thanks for your replies. We knew that eventually our angelicus would decide that she didn't like the idea of sharing a tank with anything else with whiskers, but thought that would be when she was a bit bigger. I didn't expect the territorial instinct to develop overnight. It's strange that no harm ...

Stroppy Angelicus
Hi, We've had a S. Angelicus for about a year and it's grown from about 1 inch to 5 inches in this time. Up until now its been a model citizen in a community tank. From the age of 2 inches to about 3 it was active during the day, but for the last few months it's ben hiding all day and only swimming ...

Finally got some photos of the fish, although they are a little blurred (due to the fact that it swims so fast, and I'm not very good with a camera). According to the people in the shop where we bought them, the scientific name is Hypogymnogobius Xanthozona which is, I believe, a synonym for the ...

You could try soaking your foods in a bit of crushed garlic as has been suggested in other posts. I tried it (cause I didn't really believe it) and all the fish went into a feeding frenzy. The fish don't touch the garlic and it has to be removed soon after. The downside is that the tank (and house ...

Thanks Silurus, it's definitely not that big monster ! What other microglanis fish are commonly imported ? Do they all get to similar sizes and I suppose the husbundary is the same for all ? How easy are they to breed ? I've read the Shanes world article and it sounds like a challenge ! I guess this ...

Microglanis Iheringi or zungaro zungaro ?
Hi, I was hoping you could help in distinguishing between these two species. I bought a "bumblebee catfish" from a lfs that looks like the picture of the microglanis iheringi in the catfish of the month article (and nothing like the asian bumblebee). In the tank in the lfs they were hiding in the ...

Thanks for your input. In the forseeable future we won't have enough space for a bigger tank (unless we move house ...) so that kind of scuppers the idea of any larger synos, and I think one angelicus with be more than enough. Quite fancy the idea of S. Nigriventris but we're a bit worried that they ...

S. Angelicus
Hia all, Hoping you can help us pick another fish for our tank. It's a 120 L tank (52"x12"x12") that at the moment contains 6 zebra danios, 4 penguin tetras (our dither fish), 6 Corydoras Panda and 4 ottos. The purpose of the tank is to house a S. Angelicus which we've had in a smaller tank for the ...

Hia all, Thanks for the replies, they've all been together for about a month now and seem to be getting on ok, there's now a zebra loach in there as well and hopefully a few friends for him in the near future. The S. Angelicus seems to actually like the otos (because they are noticed and not chased ...

S. Angelicus
We've got one S. Angelicus (very small at the moment) but went to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago where they have two 10" ones still with great colouration (as seen by darkangel). Looking forward to ours growing up.

pygmy corys and ottos
Hia all,
I was hoping to get some advice about keeping pygmy corydoras with ottos, since they have such similar colouring. At the moment we've got an S. Angelicus, 5 pandas and 4 ottos in a 120l tank, will the pygmys get lost in such a big tank and would I ever see the ottos again?!!
Thanks
