Re: Help IDing this Ancistrus (if possible)

those guys are really hard to identify.there is a lot of different ancistrus "spoty" variations.the 184 has 7 rays, but the spots are to small.. maybe 182? by the way, crossbreeding is another problem in ancistrus species.it makes it even harder to identify ~X( ,so it possibly might be a hybrid.

Re: Pseudohemiodon apithanos breeding

i think thats the problem of slow growing. one of my friends also fed fry with dry granules or wafers and the fry ended up growing to 2 cm in a month.when he started feeding them with artemia the growth level encreased a lot.probably in the wild the fry raise on different sorts of daphnia and ...

Re: Pseudohemiodon apithanos breeding

Fortunately P. apithanos is very easy to spawn, but unfortunately it's absolutely not easy to raise the fry doesnt the male raise the fry carrying them in his mouth? ive also noticed that 2,5 is too small.maybe next batch will grow better,i usualy feed the fry on artemia and it really helps to ...

Re: sexing L095

they look like females but they`re actually males.
the white thing dropping from the pappila seems to be semen,so theyre definatly not females.
by the way,it happens quite often when the male gives out semen, especially at fishing in spring.(they usually do this to atract females at spawning time)

Re: Pseudohemiodon apithanos breeding

wow! nice tank!
the plecos are really unusual :-BD
especially the colour and when they carry the eggs in their mouth :d it whould be interesting to see how they spawn.are they hard to breed?
i see the fry are different colours, does it remain to adult size?

Re: Sexing L134's - Please help

you could also do some shots of genital pappila, sometimes its much more easier do identify them like this, because the males, even mature, are not always very "hairy",and look like females.

Re: Sexing L134's - Please help

yeah its quite hard to sex them when they`re all together.try to do some shots of the sides so the odontodes could be seen.
and I dont think they are mature yet..usually at mature age the vertical lines twist, "break" and turn into long spots or thin lines and their number encreases
