If the names in my local Maidenhead or any other LFSs were just 5 years out of date.......... then it would be a major improvement. :ymblushing:
I provided all branches of Maidenhead with lucipinnis photo labels a couple of years ago - if you see one without the correct label tell them!

Re: Which Synodontis?
I believe it all started when facilities that used to breed eels for the table turned their attention to ornamentals. Now, I in no way condone this but every commercial fish producer wants to produce an exclusive fish that takes the world by storm and this is where it starts getting dodgy, with ...

Re: Dwarf Syno multipunctatus?
When I was on a major quest for goldeneyes I found a link to a photo at a Dutch supplier. They looked more like grandiops to me and seemed to be paler fish with a more outgoing nature.
One of mine seems to have a paler base colour but shares the spot pattern of the other fishes in the photos on the ...

Re: Dwarf Syno multipunctatus?
I know a store that breeds grandiops in a display tank and sells the young for around £20 each.
The problem for many of these fish is that the hybrid issue has meant that many sources of stock are now shunned and more expensive wild caughts via wholesalers are the order of the day. I've seen some ...

Re: Pictus Cats with Rainbow shark?
...Tappers: I have found multiple sources stating that the sharks will eventually cause injury to each other if kept in groups; however, I haven't found much indicated that the sharks are less aggressive to smaller fish. Granted some sources claim they are shy fish. Mine most certainly is not a shy ...

Re: Pictus Cats with Rainbow shark?
When you get the 55 you could have a group of three sharks - two is just one chasing the other but three can develop a pecking order and will be kept busy interacting with one another. Obviously the more cover you provide the better and breaking the sightlines is a key aspect.

Thanks Exasperatus, you're a star! That's definately the same fish - rock-hugging, swimming pattern, compact and not keen on appearing on camera. Nice tank by the way..

Re: Mongo's questions about the future of Planet
I'm with The Dark One (now that's a T shirt that needs printing) in that I see this as a matchless resource for catfish knowledge and don't really question anyone's motivation outside of enthusiasm for this group of fishes.

Exasperatus2002, that agrees with much of what I've seen and it's great to hear your observations of the interaction with multi's as I've never seen the two mixed.
Thanks for the count Silurus, ray count matches grandiops then - perhaps a variant? It certainly sounds like they're not willing/able ...

Re: Synodontis sp. 'Goldeneye'
I've just been to MA@ Harlestone and the fishes in the display are indeed Goldeneye. There's still a thriving population so hopefully we can discuss removing a small number for sale.
I took some photos, so once I've processed them I'll post a few..

Re: Dyed fish
It's an unfortunate fact that cultural preferences and ethics vary massively between some of the countries producing fishes and our own. I remember walking through a market in Indonesia in a state of silent horror where dyed day-old chicks were amongst the luckier creatures for sale.

Thanks Richard, your opinion on this matter is very welcome.
Funnily enough (as I work for MA) I remember the founder stock of the Harlestone display fish and recall when Jeremy Gay put them in - the retail price on them was fierce and so he decided to put them (six individuals) into the display ...

£25.50 for singles - I saw them earlier today! They're about the size of yours.

Re: Synodontis sp. 'Goldeneye'
Having looked at a good number of images, I think one of the key aspects is the fact that this fish has never displayed the pale beige base colouration and pale ventral area typical of multis and grandiops I've encountered. I'm currently looking closely at every batch of 'multis' I see just in case..

Synodontis sp. 'Goldeneye'
A few years ago, before the hybrid issue really got out of hand, I started putting together a few Tanganyikan Synos.
I've recently collected them from a friend after moving house and amongst my 2.2 lucipinnis and 1.1 petricola is a 'Goldeneye' that is frustratingly single and therefore celibate. I ...

Hi all,
I thought it's about time I came out of the shadows and joined the forum. Thought it was only good manners to say hello before asking about my Synos!
