Re: jaguar and Giant bumblebee cat
I would say as long as they were all the same size everything but the Aguarunichthys torosus would be fine in a 5x2x2.

I would look at something like the medium Pimelodus as well as the others already suggested.

Re: stocking advice
The great (and bad) thing about fish keeping is that people all have different ideas and principles and with the joy of the internet this allows us to share these with each other and it's a fact of life people don't always agree. I think your tank is a great size but imo 48 inches is not long enough ...

Re: stocking advice
150g is a good size but (people correct me if I'm wrong) this site promotes a 6x2 rule or 4x2 at a real push for inactive species, your tank is only 48 inches long, when your Oscar reaches 12inches plus this drops it below the min 4x2 rule, that is the point Richard and Bas are making. As for the 2 ...

Re: South american bumblebee catfish
I can think of a different ones that are regularly imported, microglanis would be a good fit like Richard said.Panquetalk wrote:The regular south American species often imported for the trade.,

Re: South american bumblebee catfish
Which species are you looking at ? Quite a few species are called bumble bee cats some would fit great and some would eat your existing stock.

It does not really answer your question but I would look at the cause of the algae, treat the cause not the problem, some of the easiest to solve would be direct sunlight and or high nitrates.

Re: Can I have a jaguar catfish
From personal experience don't buy something saying "I will upgrade" because it never happens, either start with the 180 (which I still don't think is big enough) or pick something that will fit in your tank/tanks for life not just for now ! As has been pointed out on MFK your tank is not big enough ...

Re: Can I have a jaguar catfish
Disregarding the other stocking and looking at just the cats I would say you only have 3 realistic choices, the hoplo, the spotted raphael and the jag, some of the others are just silly sugestions tbh.

How predatory are these guys towards other cats ? found a 4-5" one in a LFS which I'm thinking of getting for my 5ft but I'm worried it may eat the other planned cats, which fingers crossed would be 2x Liosomadoras oncinus 3-4", a couple of L091 around 2-3", for as cool as he looks would much rather ...

Re: Can I have a jaguar catfish
If you wanted something that would be out and about and you don't mind fry going missing if your sev's breed then I would look at some pictus or hoplos.

Re: Can I have a jaguar catfish
For a much as MFK is a good site for some species, it does have a overstock them attitude towards both CA and SA cichlids, as people have said severum are a big fish and my advice is look for something different, if the severum is none debatable just have that as your lone cichlid and give it all ...

Re: Can I have a jaguar catfish
Why not have a look at geophagus sp. tapajos or Mesonauta insignis - festive cichlid they would be a better fit for your size tank, severums are a 12" fish after all. I always find Cichlids better when kept in groups or pairs and you can see natural behaviour. As for the jag some nice wood tangles ...

Re: Can I have a jaguar catfish
What size is your 75g ? It would need to be at least a 48x18 footprint for a jag.
I would say leave out the convict and the firemouth, serverums though bigger would get bullied by the two CA's, plenty of other SA you could choose from though.

How to reseal a tank ?
Picked up a 150x60x45 for £20 because it has a leak on the bottom rear seal, done quite a bit of research and I'm pretty confident I will be able to fix it by removing and replacing all the inner secondary seal, but should I cut the base loose and do the primary seal as well ? Looking for a bit of ...

Re: Nitrate
Options I have considered 1)Lower the stocking levels and increase the plant - Overall effect will be a reduction but dead or dying plants can lead to nitrate. 2)Mix in a small % of RO water - Has other side effects on PH & things 3)Use 60-100L of RO a week adding in the minerals and buffers I need ...

Re: Tank Size
I think most people work on either a 4xL 2xW rule or 6xL 2xW rule (which I think is better) so with a 12inch fish would made a 4x2 or a 6x2 footprint tank.

Re: Murky 10gal starter tank
Do you have a filter in your tank as I can't see one ? if no then this could be a cause of (I'm guessing by survivors)your loss of fish, and if yes then 2 weeks would be too soon for the filter to mature properly and again the cause of your losses.

Re: Perfect Petricola Set-up
If you have an external filter you could try adding some coral gravel or crushed limestone in to one of the trays this would help with your water though I dare they would adapt to PH 7.6, what are your GH and KH readings ? I find play sand works fine as a substrate just make sure any rocks have a ...
