The deformities do not gaurentee that it is from inbreeding. My WC group are definetly from different parents, and they sometimes throw some deformed fry. I would say that the deformities may be from how they are raised once hatched, ie. water conditions, food, etc.. I would ask the breeder, or ...

Petricola

From my own experience, I had to wait till my F1 fry were almost 30 months of age and 2.5" in size. I have read that they can breed younger but do not know that myself. I have no idea how old the WC parents were when they bred for me, but have been breeding regular for about 4 years now. :D

In my experience, they grow to about 1.5" in 6 - 8 months after hatching, then the next .5" almost takes another year. I have hundreds of them, and never see them grow as fast as noted above.

Your Petricola have grown 1.5 - 2" in 6 months?? What do you feed them, I have 2.5 yr old ones that are barely 2.5" in size.

If you want to remove the silicone, just use a single edge razor. To separate the panes use a fine guitar string and run it down the seam between the panes of glass. Acetone(cheap nail polish remover) will remove any film left after using the razor.

My Petricola too spawn right after and sometimes during a large water change. It is not likely just the water change, but the change in PH esp since you are adding baking soda. Mine definetly hate sudden PH change. Why are you adding "salt and epsom salt"? Curious :?

Thanks very much Sid, I will move them to a new tank with sand as substate with some good hiding places. Boy and I thought Petricola was tough enough, well not to spawn, but keeping the fry alive!
Thanks again, Rick

Thanks for all the advice and comments. I will start moving each batch to a separate tank and see how that goes. I already feed quite heavy on the veggy side and algae wafers, and keep up on water changes every other day.
Thanks again folks!

They hatch out just fine, the dad is quite good at parenting. But once they leave the cave, some just disappear, and thought other sibblings or mother may be eating them. I will try removing them sooner after they are free swimming. Thanks

Albino Bristlenose cannibalism

I have had a number of batchs of fry hatch, but seem to loose some of late when new born. Is it possible they are being eaten by the older fry or parents while they still have the yolk sack and have first emerged from the cave?
Thanks in advance for replies.

Do it all the time. My best hatch rates are when I collect eggs within a few hours of being laid and then tumble them in a tube that is suspended inside the main tank to keep warm. 24 hrs later you have wigglers.
Send me an email and I will send you some pictures if you like.

If they are adult Petricola, it is likely the Male chasing the Female in an attempt to spawn. If they are juvenilles, I have many, they are just play fighting, being a little territorial, and is usually harmless to any extent.

Ok, so a friend of mine has a bike shop, with a sign that reads... If you have a $5 head, buy the $5 helmet.. I equate that to the same when it comes to heaters, or other equipment, for fish tanks!

I do use the pot and marble set up. The eggs are very small and almost clear, so very difficult to see. Once you have found a few, it gets easier. Use dark marbles, it helps greatly in seeing the eggs stuck to them. I am using dark brown, tried pure black, but they must be use to the brown as they ...

While my male Petricola does kind of try to coax the female into the cave to breed by gently rubbing up against her as you call glidding, it eventually turns into him chasing the heck out of her, then back to coaxing, and so on, until she finally goes into the cave. They then swim in circles inside ...

petricola youngsters

I have been raising Syno Petricola for quite some time, the parents being WC, and there fry usually all look the same. However, I do get light coloured and even white/pearl coloured ones in every other batch. They are somewhat blotchy in appearance until about 1 month or so, if they live as they ...

" Some of them (I never see them all out in the open at once, so its hard to tell) seem to have really fat, pink bellies. "
