Re: My little zebra group
Yeah i agree we aren't a million miles away, but water wise i use mostly RO and RO/Tap mix but if your tap water is anything like mine its pretty much perfect anyway. I have had previous success with L046 and with that female..... i just picked out the wrong male to go with her on that occasion, IMO ...

Re: My little zebra group
Hey I keep zebra's as well and have had similar experience with my eldest male. He's between 10-15yr old, i put him alone with a gravid female and despte her best efforts to get in his cave, he just beat her up and kicked her out to the point he nearly killed her. I moved them both back to the ...

Re: colony 8 zebras (photo heavy)
Hi... Very nice fish indeed.... good examples of adult L046 However... in my opinion and experience, i dont see any "obvious" females..... The fish you have listed as a male is definitely a male.... out of the other 7 listed as female in my opinion the fish in pictures 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 are males ...

Re: Need help keeping whiptail eggs in the cave
Forgive my ignorance but do you believe this to be a behavioural problem with your breeding male or simply a physical problem with eggs "falling out" of the cave?? I only ask as i have some experience with breeding Hypans and have had a problem previously where egg's were being kicked out of the ...

Re: L128 sexing
Such difficult fish to sex, I have 2 large L128, much the same as these 2..... 1 VERY obvious male and 1 i thought was a female as it had minimal odontode growth, the angle of its head slope was different (not as steep), and its pectoral fins were less defined with a thinner leading ray. I had the ...

Re: Some Peckoltia compta breeding observations
Nice informative thread, I have a group of 17 adults including some very gravid females but cant get them to spawn.
What are your water parameters??
Do you use RO for your water changes to trigger a spawn or just keep things stable??

Re: L046 Sexing Help Again
IMO i think 3 might be a male, with some TLC i think you'll notice more odontode growth developing, also body shape suggests male, the belly is big but in the stomach area not vent area.....
4 is definitely female tho....
Just my thoughts

Nice fish and a good price
Definitely P.Compta and IMO looks like an immature male. You can just see the "hair" starting to show on the body and the start of Odontode growth on the cheek and the end of the pectoral fin.
Just a thought....

Re: Catfish Study Group - Annual Open Show & Auction
I came home with quite a few 'dry' bargains, mainly food, bloodworm pellets, salmon crumb, and some live foods. Also bagged myself 12 x Aspidoras sp. (C118) which have settled in nicely. I may try to breed these in a few months. Pretty sure Mats bagged a fair few bargains tho. I really enjoyed the ...

Apologies for saying, i'd like to attend this show/auction, BUT there doesn't seem to be much information on the CSG page?? or at least i cant find it..... I have found the "diary dates" pages which mentions the date with a generic venue for all meetings......but no specific date/time/location ...

pics could be better in terms of showing detail and odontode growth(i.e close ups) but......Looking at head shape, especially the area just in front of the pectoral rays, body shape, odontode growth and pectoral rays........
i see 2 x 100% males.

Hi Marsbar
I'd be interested in them if one was definitely a female, i already have 2 which i believe to be a pair but im looking for a spare female........
any pictures of them so i can maybe see any differences might be helpful if its not to much hassle for you.
How big are they??

Hey I'd say Fish 1 is a female and was almost certain......however, on the 3rd picture down Fish 1 appears to have cheek odontode growth that is growing over/past the first pectoral ray (ie over the white 1st ray and into the black one)...... can you confirm or get a closer picture of this?? Re: ID help H.Furnculus or P.vittata
I agree Some Peckoltia. Nice male fish by the way. Why not try to breed them if the other is hopefully a female? I don't have a female, i got him in a group of L134 leopard frogs that i bought. so he's a lone male. I want to correctly ID him and then hopefully sell him to a breeder or to join a ...
