Dead ancistris

:( Well, I had a pair of longfin albinos and just lost the female. They were doing fine until one day I noticed that the female was very fat. Thinking that eggs were iminent I was excited. Next day she looked bad and here abdomed became dark-obviously not a good sign. I just found her dead and ...

stupid question

OK, I like to use my hands in picking up fish when moving them. But my ancistris scare me. Can those vampire thingies that they extend when defensive actually hurt you? Or them[if touched]?

loss of ancistris eggs

Hey guys-
I have been having good luck with breeding bushies for a half year or so but recently things have gone south. I have a twenty gal tank with one albino male and four females mixed. He bred incessantly for that period with no loss of eggs or fry. Everyone in my club was happy come auction ...

fertilization

I'd been meaning to ask this and see if anyone had any opinions. This seems like a good place being we have a picture of this "T" behavour. When I first started to learn more about cories someone at my club had said that the female ingests the male sperm and it passes thru her for fertilization. Of ...

When the c*****ds start spawning remove the Corys.
Mark

How? I need to move my cories from the 80 gal planted, community tank I mentioned. Havent' caught half of them, using traps I made. The Kribs, tetras and "headstanders" chase the cories away from the trap or just move in.

Any thoughts ...

You do anything special with water conditions to get them to spawn? I have read that a change in temperature is the largest tigger for these guys. 118 is just amazing, good luck with them and I hope you have some extra tanks around for all thos corydoras fry.

Nothing really special. My water here ...

Hi all!
First time post here. Great forum! Thought you might like a few pics and cat stories. This is part of my breeding group[4males,3 females] and one momentous nite of cory love. Thanks to Corybreed for helping me get this project off the ground. After moving my sterbs to a dedicated tank in ...

Thanks Coryman!
This makes sense and in fact your opinion was seconded elsewhere. I stll wonder about a few things. One, no other fish showed any symptom[including neons]. Also, my tank is about two months old-I'm curious if such gas could accumulate in this time period. Wouldn't this gas show up ...

Thanks for your reply. No CO2 and the PH is right as rain. All the other fish are bursting with vigor. I've read that these designer substrates contain arsenic but that it is in an inert form-I dunno. Mebbe the silt affects the corys more. I hate to throw any more in as guinea pigs.
