Re: Attempts to breed L14
Some trapping, but the cave isn't appropriate I wld say, not big enough. It's 9inch long, Only as long as the female, male is 12" long. What a waste, but still some good news

Re: Need help for xingu biotope
I'm sure a river that is several hundred kilometers long varies quite a bit from one place to another, but as far as I understand, it's largely rocky riffles and not a whole lot of other habitats. -- Mats Ahh, thats what I wanted to know. Thanks a lot. Hoping a larger space will have a higher ...

Re: Need help for xingu biotope
Mines like a pond so it's kinda tricky to scape. Is the xingu rocky throughout or is there parts where the river like any other amazon tributaries where it is driftwood filled?

Need help for xingu biotope
Hi all, I'm having a 8'X4' fgt tank soon for my L14s. It'll be for my breeding project of them. With the fgt, I'm able to add a much larger cave than what I can offer in a 4.5'X2' tank. Since the sunshines are from xingu, would love to replicate the biotope and hopefully it helps in their spawning ...

Found another piece on sale at my lfs. They state it as L14(Sao Felix). Any idea of L14 collected from different points of the river will look different?

What I'm trying to find out is whether sexing from the top view is reliable or not.Cristoffer Forssander wrote: Benjamin... parhaps you could take some shots form above... and compare them with mine. I know they are a pair cause they have made breeding attemts in the past.
I hope we will have succesful breedings soon!

Re: Attempts to breed L14
For those of you with larger L14s, approximately how old are you fish and how big are they. I want this info so I can compare the growth of my 4 and begin to plan for tank upgrades. Their growth rate will slow at about 5-6". From then on, maybe about 1-1.5" a year. I agree with what Mat said, wild ...

Re: Attempts to breed L14
Ahh, my tank has really little flow, shall add alittle to it. Any thoughts about whether a flat head would confirm that its a male? I got piece with flat head, but it has been vented at the shop before I brought it home, I sexed it wrongly?

My L14s do look different from yours. All three have significantly flat heads as compared to the sharper head shape of yours. Any one with an explanation? Maybe collected at different points of the river?

Re: Attempts to breed L14
24000 through to the filtration? Or just powerhead creating currents within the tank?
May I ask what filtration you're on?
Last thing, the largest cave I can make locally is only 12", doubt it would work. Any inputs?

Some of my fish did not eat when i just got them. I got them to eat by putting eggwhite on a stone and then put crushed food ont it. They loved it. I think this should be on this website somewhere but I don't know where. Good luck and I hope u can all understand my English. :d Eggwhite? Raw or ...

Re: Attempts to breed L14
Haha it's just a thought. I mean since these fishes are believed to do the trapping method whereby the males trap the female into the cave, males should be larger to do the job efficiently right? I'm guessing it though. It's all up for discussion since there isn't much references to breed these ...

Ahh. I'm getting a 9" female. Think it's sexually mature? Im hoping since its smaller in size, the male can get her into the cave easier.

Re: L14 - At what size can they be sexed?
Yeah somehow they have to be bred cause there's simply way too much L14 in the market right now. For Singapore where the market for them is so small, I have alr seen considerable amount of them for sale. Hmm why would they have to smuggle them out? Are they banned for export in brazil?

Re: L14 - At what size can they be sexed?
I'm not aware of anyone breeding these (or any other Scobinancistrus ) in aquaria. It is highly likely in part due to the fact that they grow large, and most people don't have enough space to keep a group of them, large enough caves for them to breed in. Venting means looking at the "bits" around ...

Attempts to breed L14
Hi all, as stated on this site, the L14 has never been bred before in captivity. however, heard whispers from my local LFS in singapore that some malaysian farms has successfully bred them, however, the techniques used will probably never be let known to us and will stay as a trade secret for ...

Re: L14 - At what size can they be sexed?
I would think that if they were well fed and not too skinny that they should be sexable. The only way at this size however, would probably be to vent them, as I don't think at that size they would be showing noticeable outward signs of sexual differences. They are definitely large enough to see the ...
