Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
My L128s finally arrived! They ate like pigs right out of the bag and CHASED my Rocio away from the frozen shrimp as soon as they hit the tank bottom - talk about bullies! But seriously I think personality-wise they are a perfect match (and everyone has their own Cichlid Stone to defend, which is ...

Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
Apistomaster: Thanks for the advice - I agree that fish from fast-moving waterways should have as much new water as possible. I had been following the 20% water change rule rather blindly and for no good reason, as I can certainly spare a few hours every Sunday taking care of my fish! I just ordered ...

Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
Bijn: I agree that a 40-G is going to be too small for the Rocio once he grows up, but it is only meant to be a temporary tank for the next year or so. We are living in a studio right now, so all of my tanks are on a 48" wide baker's rack and the 40-G breeder is literally the biggest tank that will ...

Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
Linus - WOW! Your fish is absolutely stunning! What an amazing animal! Thanks for the awesome picture! Richard B & Mats P: After hearing how happily everyone's L. triactis are in 100+ gallon tanks, I think you are right about them getting a bit too big for my 40-G... What do you guys think of the ...

Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
I think the flash pleco is going to be a little small to share a tank with a lone EBJD, especially one that gets live food pretty frequently! As far as the Three Beacon (L091) goes, it is possible that I will upgrade the EBJD and his future tankmate to a larger tank next year, but I don't think I ...

Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
2wheels: Thanks! It's nice to hear from someone who keeps these successfully! May I ask what your setup is like (water params, tank size, etc.) and what you feed them? MatsP: Thanks a lot for the searching suggestion - I have already eliminated a few that will not work (such as the Leopard Cactus ...

Re: Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
Mods - sorry for the caps! MatsP - I did do a search of the cat-e-log, but it came back with over 100 species, many of which had little or no information on how easy they are to keep alive and happy. After my disaster with the Gold Nugget I purchased 2 weeks ago (and killed, despite my best efforts ...

Suitable pleco suggestions for my set-up please!
I have an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey who is currently living in a 40-G planted tank with a bristlenose pleco. Although the bristlenose works for now (he and the EBJD are about the same size) in a few months he will have to move out of the tank (or risk turning into an EBJD appetizer!) What would be ...

Re: New Gold Nugget Pleco Not Eating :-(
racoll: The GN pleco is in a 10-g quarantine tank with a 1" ram from the same pet store, plus 2 juvenile male guppies. The rest of the guppies (probably about 200 total, mostly fry) are distributed among 90 gallons of tank space in species-only tanks. (Guppy breeding pays for my cichlid & Loricarid ...

Re: New Gold Nugget Pleco Not Eating :-(
MatsP: I had the heater set to 84 for the first week, but found that the actual temperature in the tank was dipping into the high 70s when the apartment heater was off and never climbing above 82 when the heat in the apartment was on (measured by a stick-on-the-glass as well as a Coralife Digital ...

Re: New Gold Nugget Pleco Not Eating :-(
Racoll & MatsP: As far as diet for these guys, there are conflicting articles on this site - the Shane's World article says that they consume a mostly-vegetarian diet, but the Species page says that they should eat 70% animal protein and 30% vegetable matter! Since algae wafers have so far gone ...

Finally Got Some Pics of The GN Pleco!
The GN Pleco finally came out of hiding today! I also sank 10 Cichlid Color pellets on the tank floor (none of the guppies/rams would go near them) and sure enough, they were GONE by the morning! So, looks like the little guy/girl is eating after all :-) His/her color is looking a little splotchy ...

Re: New Gold Nugget Pleco Not Eating :-(
MatsP, Richard B, Matt 30, FrankNL: Thanks for the kind words of encouragement/advice! I put a cube of Mysis shrimp in there and left the lights off today, so hopefully the L018 ate some shrimp in the dark while I was at work... I read that these guys like more meat in their diet than most ...

New Gold Nugget Pleco Not Eating :-(
I got a new 4" L018 (Gold Nugget Pleco) on January 19th (6 days ago) and I do not think it has eaten since (algae wafers go untouched). When I purchased the fish it had a very full belly, so I'm not sure what is wrong :-( It usually is hidden behind the driftwood so I can't tell if it has lost ...
