Yeah, I knew the pl*co would be more costly than the oscar. Especially given that oscars are easily bred in captivity and some pl*co's just aren't. Interestingly enough, I have read accounts of the Royals being good tankmates. People have reported success at algae control with them, despite their ...

Just looking for suggestions, if the store can't get one of them, I'll try the next. I don't have the oscar yet, and will be buying small. Here's my list thus far, feel free to add and point out pros and cons: L190, Royal Pl*co L200, Lemon Spotted Green Pl*co L168, Buterfly Pl*co Rhino Pl*co L021 ...

Like a kid in a candy store!

Okay folks, here's the set-up. Through some minor misfortune I have managed to gather about eighty dollars in store credit at a nice auqarium store. And, I will be in need of an attractive pl*co for my new tank. The list of requirements are as follows: Care: Hardy, I don't want anything too ...

Glofish have been for sale in my area for some months now. I'm not sure what the draw is. The fish don't glow in the dark. All they do is kinda fluoresce under a black light. Not exactly amazing. I'll pass.

The single butterfly in my 55 has been a breeze to keep. The pH is kept 6.6-7.0 with the NO2, NH3, NH4 kept at unreadable levels. Don't know the NO3, but the plants in the tank help keep it under control. The temp is maintained between 78-82 F. There is a large bogwood piece in the tank that serves ...

Pl*co gathering.....in my back yard?!

Hello, all. Through a little observation at key periods of the day I have discovered a strong population of what I believe to be common pl*cos in the Hillsborough River a little ways from my apartment. These are big fella's, like 12-15". I haven't gotten the cast net out to get a close look at one ...

Summer (Yellow) Squash http://www.nationmaster.com/images/enc/Y/YellowSquash.jpg I've never heard of any negative effects from feeding collards. In fact, two articles on this site list kale and collard greens as great foods for the Farlowella species. When feeding, I blach the greens first. Then, I ...

Zucchini doesn't dissolve. It will, however, turn into a bouyant, green mush. Check your filter to make sure its not full of zucchini Jell-O. Yellow squash holds up better in the tank, but anything not gone in a couple days gets removed. Best guess, the B-N's munched the zucchini. Also, some ...

I have a pair of Bristnoses that absolutely love zucchini and yellow squash. I have been told that pl*co's can not digest the seeds in a cucumber, but they have no trouble with the zucchini's seeds. Both the squash and zucchini are great because they are so easy; no boiling or freezing is needed to ...

Don't have any trouble with the two spotted and two striped raphaels in my tanks. they are extremely nocturnal so hiding places are a must. Also, the spots tend to grow in girth much faster that they grow in length, so make sure all caves are nice and broad. 8)

Dang, possum-playin' Clown!

I been pretty worried about my little Clown Pl*co the past week or so. He just stopped eating. I gave him a better selection than I eat, zucchini, hulled peas, sweet potato, blanched broccoli. All this in addition to spirulina tablets and a big chunk of bogwood for him to chew on. Nothing doing, his ...

Assuming I had the capability to house enormous predatory catfish, I'd have to go with Pylodictus olivaris, the yellow or flathead catfish. Here's one for ya. A buddy of mine got the idea to dig a pond in his yard. He got it done, let rain water fill it and had a state biologist come take a look, to check the water conditions. Biologist said everything looked good and he was ready to stock it. He ordered up some largemouth bass ...

Another question 'bout the zucchini. At the advice of numerous books, I've begun feeding slices to the herbivorous cats in my tanks. Until now, I had been relying on spirulia tablets. Should I still supplement with the tablets, or will the zucchini support all nutritional requirements? :?
