Re: Bought Two Albino Cory Catfish
I know this might rub a few people but the temp has nothing to do with the goldfish. I have a 300 gallon outdoor pond (small by pond standards) and it has fluctuating temperatures of 63-92 degrees and has 3 comet goldfish living in it. They started out as the little feeders you win at a fair and now ...

Re: Slate from Lowe's tank safe?
I have used slate from Lowes and never had a problem. (Don't tell my wife) What I do is put the new slate in her turkey pan and fill it with enough water to cover it by about an inch. Then bake it in the oven at 350 for half an hour. After that take out the hot pieces of slate and let them sit on a ...

Re: Pair of L114 coming soon
Two is a poorly choosen number for any territorial fish, as one will probably dominate the other. L114 are definitely quite territorial. -- Mats Just so you have a few of the relevant details, my main tank is 183x61x73cm 240 gallons but already has 3 different juvenile plecos living in it(common ...

Pair of L114 coming soon
Now that my 55 gallon tank is back in use and it has been running trouble free for a couple months with a few livebearers and crays I've begun the process of finding permanent residents. I added a fire eel two weeks ago and I just ordered (2) L114 to add to the tank. The plecos are in the 3"-4 ...

I have found that there is a problem with uploading pictures too.
Also if I try to change the default date or change the sex I get an error.

Re: 2 hour car journey from store?
I have road triped for as much as 3 hours and I use a bucket designed for keeping live bait when fishing. It is 5 gallons, has a lid, and has a battery powered air pump that hangs on the side. I paid $20 U.S. and found it at a local bait & tackle shop. Never had a problem with keeping fish alive ...

Re: A few pict of the fish that keep me
Very nice pics, I noticed the plec in the piece of wood with the hole in it. Is that hole something you did, or it just came that way? Is that local Florida wood or store bought? Also is that a solid piece of log and if so how did you get it to sink? I would like to add something like that to my ...

Re: Question about... well.. pleco poo
I know a proper diet is required for any living thing but there is a point of over analysis. Dietary change based on poo color is insane if you ask me. Could you immagine if your doctor said that to you? Sorry miss you don't have enough yellow in your poo please start eating more corn. =)) Your fish ...

Re: Irresponsible shops...
I pretty much agree with everything Matts said. Here in the U.S. they sell all sorts of fish at the big chain stores. Most of the employees are 16-22 years old and often have no knowledge of what they are selling. I used to hold my tongue when I would hear a salesperson say something like "that ...

Re: Importing plecs to the U.S. (info needed)
OK, I got the answer from the prosecuting authority which is U.S. Fish & Wildlife. "The fish is not on the cities(<--spelling) list and it's not on the endangered list so it's ok to import it from Canada. They also refused to give it to me in writing. I spoke to customs again and they said as long ...

Re: Importing plecs to the U.S. (info needed)
OK, lets everyone keep the "personal opinions" out of this. As stated before I don't want a debate as to the "ethical or moral" I am looking for information about the "legal". What you do, did, or want to do is irrelevant to the issue of is it legal. I am looking to import a few fish from Canada ...

Re: Which Royal pleco do I have
Thanks everyone, It seems we all agree that L191 fits this little royal best. The other fish is an obvious L191 and is a much darker in coloring. I released them into my big community tank after a healthy feeding for the current residents. They made themselves right at home and had no problems ...

Which Royal pleco do I have
I went to the petshop today and after 3 weeks of seeing these two little plecos going unclaimed I just had to give them a home for christmas, especially since the price got down to normal. The only problem is they were listed as "Royal Plecos" with no L number or common name. I have an idea of what ...

Thanks again for that info, the link was excellent I honestly read all of the posts and was amazed at how strong the opinions were. Re: Importing plecs to the U.S. (info needed)
From previous discussion on Hypancistrus zebra, in the US, it is technically illegal to import fish (and all other living things) that are illegal to export from the country of origin. -- Mats Thank you for your reply the information you provided is exactly what I thought. U.S. law states that "it ...

Importing plecs to the U.S. (info needed)
I'm currently trying to find out about importing plecs to the Florida in the U.S. I have just started the process of dealing with customs, U.S. dept of Agriculture, Florida dept of Agriculture, and Florida Fish and wildlife. I have asked about the import of fish on the banned list. Specificly L24 ...

Re: Active Pleco
I currently have one common and one rubbernose and each has claimed it's own area of the tank. The common has chosen a cave-like shipwreck to reside in while the rubbernose likes to hide behind the pick up for my filter which is wrapped with a live bamboo plant. The common mostly stays in or at the ...
