I had similar problems with wild caught Sterbai. No problems with their offspring or other locally raised Sterbai.

Yes. Lots of chasing and aggressive/show-off dashes to the surface.

I think the best indicator for my Sterbai is when they start activly cleaning areas to put their eggs on.

MTS should be OK and probably beneficial. Not sure about any of the other snails.

It might be worth a try to save the "waste water" from the active breeding tanks water change and putting it into the tank that you are hoping to induce spawning.

Agreed.
I'm still trying to determine the differance between the L046 and the L333 other than color.

Re: L046 vs. L333
Thank you for the info. "Another problem, is that there are very few people (scientists) qualified to carry out this work. This is because funding has been dramatically slashed for this kind of work. Given that in over 250 years, humans have described only 2 million of probably well over 20 million ...

All good info, but bad for my chances of importing L333. What is the current process for scientifically describing a species?

Re: L046 vs. L333
That makes sense.
If the sp indicates that it hasn't been described, how does that relate to say L333? Isn't the L333 label a description like the Zebra description on the L046?

I'm not sure what you mean by a white list, but I agree that any new fish identified would not be on their Conditional List unless it was petitioned and accepted.
Here is the list

Go Brewers.
The same thing happens with the Peckoltia. I'm speculating, but, with the price and demand for the L046, someone may have already successfuly petitioned the state. If so, I may be able to get copies of that petition.

L046 vs. L333
I've been looking for some L134 or L333. I have found some L333 but I'm in Hawaii and the Hawaii Dept. of Ag. will not allow them to be imported into the state. But they will allow the L046 to be imported. This confuses me. I talked with the fresh water fish specialist for the state and he told me ...

If you're going to be using sand blasting sand, I think you'll find it very clean compared to other sands.

Aloha, If the water on Kauai is like the water on Oahu, you'll love it. Soft and low ph. Hawaii Discus is in Kapaa. My indoor tanks stay at about 80F year round. There is not much of a selection of fresh water fish in Hawaii. That means you'll need to have them shipped in. Not cheap. Plus the State ...

Mike,
I questioned that as well. It sure wasn't fatal.
The eighth row down middle picture is the closest to what it looked like.

Re: Disease Identification
Thursday morning I checked on the fish before work. I thought it would be dead or I'd have to dispose of it after work. After work it was resting on the bottom and looked better. A few hours later it aggressively started feeding. By Friday evening it's behavior was back to normal and it looked much ...

Thanks Mike and Mats, Mike, the Saddleback Disease referanced in your attached link seems to be an accurate desription of what has happened to both fish. Columnaris sounds like a nasty disease especially since it seems to thrive best in clean healthy tanks. Not good news. I'm not sure as to what I ...

Re: Disease Identification
Ammonia 0 - .25 ppm
Nitrite less than .3 ppm
Nitrate ~ 5 - 10 ppm
That's probably very similar to my tap water. Ph 6.8 - 7.1 and soft. From the link to the pics., I think it's probaly a fungus infection.
Thanks,
Erik

I had recently posted this. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=32180 Looks like I have another fish with the similar problem. I've been doing a lot of research on the forum for fin rot etc. There appears to me a lot of conflicting information basically due to the inability to ...
