Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

The Molly died not quite a week ago but the Iridescent Shark looks much better. I think all the problems are probably over. Thank you so much Barbie.

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

I forgot to mention that I added some airstones a couple of days ago. I'm putting the carbon back in the canister filter (need to buy more pads for the power filter). And the Pangasianodon hypophthalmus's right eye is blurry. Will continue to update.

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

The ick appeared to be gone, but then the originally mislabeled shark (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) looked like he had white spots on him. I figured that it was more ick and continued treatment (this was yesterday) The white didn't look quite like the ick did but now he hides when I try to look at ...

Re: Change Species, Keep Data in my species

I'll have to go to the lfs sometime and take some pics to figure out what it is they're selling and that I bought. Too bad I won't be able to change the species and keep the data.

Re: Change Species, Keep Data in my species

If you're talking about my fish specifically it isn't the Farowella acus I want to change (which I'm no longer keeping) but the Ariopsis seemanni which really looks more like Pangasianodon hypophthalmus. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

2nd pictus just kicked the bucket. Ick is gone almost completely, so it might have been an inability to endure the meds any longer.

Change Species, Keep Data in my species

I'm not sure if I just can't figure it out or if there is a problem but when I click on "Change species, keep data" on the my species page, the page that comes up looks just like the edit species page and I can't change the species. The URL is different (has the &edmode=change_id at the end), but it ...

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

So far everyone is still alive, well besides the two initial casualties. The medication I'm using is QuICK Cure. The active ingredients are Formalin and Malachite Green. The spots seem to be clearing up. I'm feeling optimistic!

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

The instructions on the meds said to remove the carbon from the filter. I did that, but I didn't remove the bio-chem stars because the direction didn't say anything about them. Would they be affecting the treatment? Should I remove them?

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

The bacteria additive is from Jack's Aquarium & Pets and is called Bio-Boost and it says "Concentrated bacterial additive" among other things. My old tank is a 15gal and just had a small power filter from walmart. There wasn't any filter media with the exception of the blue pad that contained carbon ...

Re: Ick? Velvet? Something else?

The ammonia test I purchased lists the results as safe, caution, stress, and there are two higher levels. The first three were kept in another tank before but i was told putting in all the fish in the new tank would be best for compatibility. I didn't cycle the tank first, didn't know it was ...

Ick? Velvet? Something else?

First problem with parasites I've had. I think it's probably ick, but some of the spots look a little yellowish. Just lost a pictus cat.

Temperature was kept between 74 and 78 degrees, is now at 80 because I was told that higher temperatures will help with ick, was debating about going higher but ...

Re: Bloodworms apparently float (return of the newbie)

I just fed em frozen bloodworms and i know that the pictus ate some (and now is looking plump) and i'm assuming that the colombian shark did too. Oh, and as a side note, i did see the colombian shark eat some flakes off of the water's surface a few days ago and i think he ate the few freeze dried ...

Re: Bloodworms apparently float (return of the newbie)

Thanks. I assume i should just pitch the freeze dried worms? And will any local fish store (not Walmart) have these blister packs or should i find someplace online to order them? And i guess is there anything i should know about what kind to get or avoid or if they come in different sized worms what ...

Re: Bloodworms apparently float (return of the newbie)

That was quick! They are freeze dried but not refridgerated, just sitting on the shelf at the store. Brand is Tetra. Note to self: Don't get any more bloodworms from Walmart. Was I right in getting the bloodworms or should I buy another food that is better for them? And if bloodworms are best, live ...

Bloodworms apparently float (return of the newbie)

Hello again.
Well I was looking into what to feed my catfish (figuring they would like something in addition to or instead of tropical flakes since one is a carnivore and the other is an omnivore) (Pictus and Colombian Shark) and read that for the Pictus bloodworms "induce a feeding frenzy" and ...

Re: Tank Size for Colombian Shark and Pictus

Thanks. I'll be saving up for bigger tanks. Walmart probably wouldn't sell too many fish if people actually knew what some of them require lol.

Tank Size for Colombian Shark and Pictus

Well, here's another newbie that has bought fish that will definitely outgrow his tank. I have a Colombian Shark (Hexanematichthys seemanni) and a Pictus Catfish (Pimelodus pictus). I just bought them from Walmart and they are both somewhere around 2.5" from nose tip to end of tail. I would like to ...
