Re: I told you so :-( Damn Dam
So is the L14 going to disaper? Statistically it's got a 20-40% chance of still existing 10 years after the construction of the dam. Most species probably wont go extinct right away. Species die hard, they usually cling on to existence long after one'd think they could not possibly survive - this ...

Re: L18, L81, L177: Diffrent species?
L018 and L177 are both considered Baryancistrus xanthellus - these L-numbers are clearly mentioned in the description of this species. L081 is not mentioned, and appears to not be covered by the current description. I personally would, if the goal is to breed them for example, only keep one variety ...

I was thinking more in the lines of a hobby list - one that shows the L-numbers that are likely to disappear.MatsP wrote:You mean an environmental study? Yes.Andersp90 wrote:Has anyone made a list of the species that will be lost??

Does anyone know what the effect of the dam will be? How many km of river will be lost?
Are we going to lose some of the known pleco species?
I wonder if this Pseudaancistrus found near Altamira will dissaper.

L18, L81, L177: Diffrent species?
Hello everyone.
Is the L18, L81 and L177 still considered to be diffrent species or has that changed since the "golden nugget" was described last year?

Even humans can turn yellow.
I am wondering if the red fins of the L24´s, is caused by consuming crustations in their natrual habitat?

Re: Panaque maccus spawn
They may just need some other triggers than other plecos. Quite. It's just that we don't know WHAT those triggers might be - at least I don't. -- Mats True. I still think that a fake dry season would be a good place to start. No water changes for 3 weeks, mabye even turn the pumps off. The temp ...

Re: Panaque maccus spawn
That sounds a bit as I would have thourght.
Seems like a fake dry season is the way to trigger the panaques. But im a bit suprised by the fact that they have spawned in a rock cave and not a wooden cave.
I hope it will work for my blue eye panaques too.

Re: Adult L18 vs Adult L81?
The 2 pictures shows the "real" L081 and the first pic is a female and the second are a male, adults of L018 is very similar to adults L081. It's difficult to only use the amount or size of spots to separate them. In general L081 from young to adult have smaller and a higher density of spots when ...

Re: L27 thunder?
I don't think that 'Thunders' constitute a new species, just another variant. A lot of the Brazilian river varieties are essentially the same and resemble Panaque nigrolineatus, there are only a few small features to differentiate. But 'Thunders' definitely have longer noses like you say. I don't ...

Re: L27 thunder?
The asians call them thunder pelcos because the yellow lines look like lightning.
But from what i understand, the thunder pleco is actually an independent species?
They are beautifual as small, but lose their colour with age... Just look at that long nose.

L25 and others released soon?
The Brazilian exporters are saying that some of the currently banned pleco speices, will be unbanned this year or early next year. One of the promised species are L25.
Am I the only one who has been told this?
They have tight connections inside IBAMA, so I wouldent be suprised if it was true.

Haha that's ok, I'm always nosey about how much people spend on their fish/tanks/etc :) Well let me know how you get on keeping 4-5 big plecs together in a 720l. How much it has cost me is something I would like to keep to myself. :) But no, they arent cheap. :? Regarding the tank: They will be kept in a 720 liter tank. You may think they need a huge tank, but I think that will cause even more problems. In a large tank, there will be lots of space to fight ...
