Re: Help! pink L134s dying
Update: Last night I tore down their normal tank, and destroyed hundreds of leeches, on caves, plants, in the sand, and in the canister filter. I also took the caves from QT and several leeches. I had read that the leeches in black worms are harmless which is why I wasn't completely anal about ...

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
Thinking back to which one died last week. I'm pretty sure it was my only male afterall. He wasn't in spawning condition hence my oversight but he had vastly different markings which I confused in my memory. I am pretty sure the 4 I have now are all females.

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
I think I may have found the answer... I just found several long brown leeches in their usual tank. These are leeches that I have found in my live blackworms before and usually I will pull them out when I find them. I suppose I must have missed at least one and they have reproduced in the tank. I ...

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
The bloated one has a bloody vent and is now expelling something hard to describe. Yellow globules that look half transparent. It also has increased bloody red marks. The one that is not bloated has the same bloody marks and appears unchanged. Any ideas about what is being expelled and does it shed ...

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
I agree, and an internal bacterial infection is what I suspected from the start. I'm just not sure why the Furan-2 (nitrofurazone and furazolidone) isn't helping, and what I could try/do instead/as well.

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
Sorry about the quality of pictures my QT isnt in the greatest location for photographing.
Our well water has around 20ppm nitrates so they mostly get RO/DI water during water changes.- 19 Dec 2011, 16:02

Re: Help! pink L134s dying
Friday I moved them all to a QT tank and started dosing Furan 2. 3 appear improved, the 1 with redness on his fins now has odd red spots on his body too and is still breathing rapidly. None have eaten whatsoever. If I didn't know better I would think he had been pulled forcefully from a cave and ...

Help! pink L134s dying
Last week my large gravid L134 turned pink/red on the leading edge of her fins, and appeared to be breathing quickly/heavily. I did a large water change immediately. The next morning her entire body looked pink, as if she had a sunburn. I moved her to a QT dosed with Furan-2 (nitrofurazone and ...

Okay, If i were to get 3 more adults, could they be kept in a 20 long? or would they need more space?

Building L134 spawning group
I currently have a male and female L134 in a 20 long and want to add more for a viable spawning group. How many total fish should I aim to get and in what size tank? (Considering limited funds) I have a 40 breeder available also.

Lovely thread. I would love to know where in VA you are located. I am in Richmond and love to see what I can find in the James River with a pocket net and jam jar.

Persistent cloudy eye
Around 6 months ago my best C. Schultzei developed a case of cloudy eye after a long stretch of spawning. I seperated her and treated with Melafix/Pimafix, then gave her a long period of rest and relaxation in a nice 75g display tank and while she never appeared sickly her eyes didn't recover. She ...

C. Delphax ID?
I found these 8 looking miserable and swimming around mid/upper water in my LFS. They were marked as delphax, but it seems there are a ton of corys that look sort of like these and I wouldn't trust my LFS to label a goldfish correctly. Some are very faded out from being in the specimen cup but I ...

Re: FYI Marineland Stealth Pro heater withdrawl
Call marineland directly, they shipped me 7 visi-therm heaters and told me to return my stealth-pros after I receive the replacements. Oddly they never gave me an address to ship to and there was none in the package of visitherms that arrived within a week of my phone call, so I still have them all ...

Breeding L177
Has anyone managed to breed L177 Gold Nuggets in an aquarium? I've read everything I can find online about gold nuggets, including the articles and Cat-eLog pages on PlanetCatfish. There is reference to breeding "Gold Nuggets" but no specific L numbers and the Cat-eLog page for L177 states 'breeding ...

Re: Spawning c121
Thanks for the suggestions. I agree that they are overweight, largely because they have been hogging down the food intended for the black corys who had lost some weight. I will try to balance their diet better. Regarding the higher temps, I am confused as to why the temp range on the Burgessi Cat ...

Spawning c121
I was hoping that someone here might have some tips for me. I managed to get 7 c121s a few months ago, they turned out to be 5 females and just 2 males. I've been feeding them live black worms, frozen blood worms and daphnia plus crushed high protein pellet foods. The females look ready to pop ...

Constant spawning health risks?
My prized C. Schultzei has been spawning almost every day for the last 4 weeks. I've raised her water temp in the hopes of stopping her but it has only barely slowed her down. The eggs/babies arent the issue, I'm happy to move the eggs and raise the fry but I was hoping to show her at AACC2010 next ...

Re: Whis wrong with my Farlowella?
I've seen similar problems on a number of my corys since moving house. I think the stress of moving and possible temperature fluctuations associated with that weakened them. The first case was in my favorite fish and after trying a number of different medications my LFS gave me a bottle of Ruby Reef ...

Re: 2 Days to go
Slightly moot point now but my experience with Cory eggs in 2 different houses with 2 very different wells may be relevant or at least interesting. For what it's worth, it appears that eggs kept at the same temp hatch 1-2 days sooner and with more apparent ease in 5.5-6pH water than eggs in 7.8-8pH ...

L177 gold nuggets and cory eggs/fry
I have 4 new L177 gold nuggets at around 2.5/3" that I was housing with 4 C. Schultzei (black corys) in a 48" 55g. After weeks of trying and then giving up, the corys suddenly decided to spawn just 2 days after the Plecos were added. Are the eggs/fry safe to leave in the tank with the gold nuggets ...
