Bristlenose coming out my eyeballs.. shipping advise.
I have many breeding pairs of bristlenose throughout my fish room, which are secondary to my primary program - breeding angelfish. My supply has long outgrown the local demand so I've gotten myself set up for shipping, and posted an ad in the sale section on another forum. So, great news! My first ...

Re: Hybrid Loricariids (split from "Bought as L173..."
I wasn't talking about fish only bred in captivity at all. I was merely pointing out that the distinction of one species of fish (L-number) is a subjective, human-created concept, which nature does not obey. It may very well be that one L-number fish might be just another color variety that ...

Re: Hybrid Loricariids (split from "Bought as L173..."
Just another thought about hybrid fish... We call all these different fish, that have been named by whomever it is that does so, different "species" without really understanding what that means. Most definitions of "species" include a population of individuals which can breed to produce viable ...

I hope you're right! Two pairs would be awesome! Especially if they actually both hook up!! I need to get the baby factories going. Do they all look like they are breeding age to you?

Re: Identify and sex four hypancistrus
Mats, I haven't really experienced that yet. I am very conscientious about water quality and providing an appropriate landscape for each fish populating a tank and try to keep all fish that like the same thing, soft acidic water with large semi-frequent water changes, planted tanks, and caves ...

Re: Identify and sex four hypancistrus
Jac, You would recommend keeping them all together in a 55 then? You know, with all the different fish I've bred, I've never experienced putting a know male and known female together with no breeding. I don't think fish are as picky, but then I've not been successful with these yet, so I will ...

Re: Identify and sex four hypancistrus
So, would it be a good idea to seperate the two that I believe are male and female into their own tank? Instead of having several males competeing for dominance? Or can multiple males share one female in, say a 55g, peacefully? Assuming they are conditioned well and have appropriate water quality ...

You know what I just noticed? Fish #1 doesn't have that little extra fin right under/behind the genital region. Does that indicate that it's a female? It looks like a female to me.

Re: Hypancistrus illness help
Thanks, Mats. By the way, is there a difinitive way to sex these cats? I have two types, L-199s and L-333s. All are full grown in comparable living conditions to OP, and I have never seen any breeding behavior. I understand that they and ancistrus breed in similar ways and condiitons and I have ...

Re: L-199 care
Thank you! You are very helpful. I have been giving the L-199s algae discs and shrimp pellets. They seem to care more about the algae disks, but the shrimp pellets break apart really easily. I'm looking into some other options, and I do have some frozen bloodworms.

Re: L-333
Hi!! I'm new too. I just got some L-333s this week. I bought them off Aquabid. They are so cute! I've been doing alot of reading online about them and the other kind I got (L-199s) and it seems like there aren't many significant differences between breeding and care of L-333s and BN except the diet ...

L-199 care
Well, I got some new plecos this week - L-333s and L-199s. There is a sufficient amount of information that all seems congruent on the L-333s - water parameters, food, breeding, ect... but I can't seem to find out much about the L-199s. Here are some of my questions - What would be an ideal diet to ...
