see how mine has less defined pattern, than barbie's? that is where i was getting frustrated/lost b/c he shows many traits of one but some of another. for example sp 7 or 8 i cant remember has too elaborate of a bristle array. but at the same time an argument could be presented that my fish is in ...

Spawing Chocolate/rhino disscussion (some pics dialuppers)

Sup all! I bought my little Glyptoperichthys scrophus a while back with no entention of breeding them. However after some time i have begun to enjoy the little guy (not big yet :) ) I would set up a different area for him then the tank he is in now, he shares a 30 with a pair of oscars currently i ...

if i am not mistaken the bony ray in the fin is a different compound than the array extensions such as lyre tails and the such. the clipping could have initiated one of several responses from the fish such as a layer of scartissue forming over the clipped portion preventing it from regenerating, as ...

Brilliant work Barbie! I am one who have been following your spawn stories. I love your 'snow-melt' suggestion to simulate the rainy season. I live in florida so i do not have such things at my disposal, but i had never thought of it. What are the chem params for your snow melt? does such a drastic ...

just to keep the discussion moving... :D One reason the latin-based nomenclature system was developed was to allow for the discovery of new species and the evolution (in real time) of other species. A good example is sub-naming ie : homo sapiens sapiens. how do we know (since such a small amount is ...

Actually funny u mention x-breed species like that. guppie and platy (generic) genes arent compatible (to my knowledge), however the sword tail and the platy can be sucessfully x-bred and with little effort. one the flip of the coin what if the plecos came from the same river system? they could ...

{Devil's Advocate}Agrument:Inte-species breeding (plecos +)

I have been reading here awhile and have noticed a general concensus on not inter-breeding plecos. i have been inter-breeding platy live bearers for quite some time now and have created atleast 2 genuine 'new' hybrids. i have to get them to reproduce yet but this is after 1 and 1/2 years intense ...

oops! thought of one other possiblity: they could both be males. i have had a pair of male common plecos that used to fight, most pleco species (correct me if i am wrong) males will butt heads, in general or in a confined space with once again a lack of establishable territory.

IMHO i would say that the tank is approaching its bioload. at min u have like 23" worth of fish in a 20 gal and second being planted and having driftwood this tank may be overcrowded (ie physical space.) to my knowledge BN's don't get aggressive, i have 2 in a commune tank (30 gal) planted w/ some ...

Sup all, Funny you mention this i have a rhino pleco in with a pair of oscars. the rhino (whom is lovingly know as horny :) keeps the oscrs in line, oscars tend to be very curious and "investigate" the rhino and he chases them of rapidly, occasionally taking a couple scales off my tiger oscar in one ...
