Wall, I'd prefer not to.
Window, definite possibility provided I can keep the heat in. My furnace already costs enough to keep the house even at 60F in the winter ($250...). If anyone has links to something that would work, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Re: Keeping a fish room mold free?
So here is what I am planning. 1. Repaint the areas around the windows with mold/mildew resistant paint. 2. Buy a dehumidifier that has no copper pipes, reuse the water for the tanks themselves. 3. Cover the tanks with glass/plastic. Sound good? I actually planned on going glass hunting next week on ...

pleco_breeder, that looks awesome! Wish I had the guts to do that. Overflows scare the heck out of me!
The LFS I used to help with had stands built with 2x4 "runners" (what the tanks sit on), with 2x6 uprights. Stands were 20+ years old and just starting to fall apart.

Keeping a fish room mold free?
Ran into a problem today. After 6 months of no problems with my fish room, I decided to open the windows yesterday since it was 65F out and lovely. I come into the room today, I have mold around both my windows. Total area probably 2sqft between both windows. Nailed it with Fantastik (which took the ...

Re: Heating multiple tanks - Central system, heaters, or room?
Maybe I'll just run with what I can afford, heater wise, and see how the room reacts to more gallons at higher temps. It might be *just* enough to keep the water where it needs to be. I just checked my tanks with open tops, HOB filters, and no heater (most are only a few inches off the ground....so ...

Re: Heating multiple tanks - Central system, heaters, or room?
Mmmmm gotcha. Guess I'll have to put off any further progress for quite some time. Nothing really financially possible right now.
Oh well.

Re: reverse osmosis
I've used the waste water from my RO unit for less demanding fish quite often, especially when I was running it like crazy for my coral propagation system. After that, I haven't used it much. My shrimp bred like crazy in the waste water. Cleaner than it came in at least (although possibly higher in ...

Re: Heating multiple tanks - Central system, heaters, or room?
Thanks for the replies. I do always keep the door shut and it is somewhat well insulated. It's about 8F warmer than the rest of the house at any given time. Keeps the cats out too. Room is sort of messy so it isn't exactly something I want house guests to see either. I'm still having a trouble ...

Hello from Ohio!
Hi everyone! My name is Craig and I am a 24 year old nursing student from Crestline, OH. Been keeping aquariums for about 14 years on and off, heavily for the past 6. Done everything from high tech reefs to no-tech 3g shrimp tanks. After being heavily involved in the marine side of things I've been ...

Heating multiple tanks - Central system, heaters, or room?
Hello, I am working on setting up roughly 30 - 10g, 6 - 20g longs, 6 - 40/65g tanks, and a 150g for my fish room. I am going to run the smaller tanks off a piston type air pump capable of running 60+ outlets in a loop. The larger tanks will either be canister or HOB's (depending on bio-load). Now ...
