QUOTE: "My first thought though, was are you sure they are really L338? Without knowing they were caught in the Rio Puraqequara, it might be hard to get a proper ID." Well... No, I guess I'm not ABSOLUTELY certain. I purchased them from a seller in Florida, who went out of business after some very ...

L338's Spawned Twice, But ???
Hello everyone, I'm hoping that someone may shed some light on my situation. I have a trio of L338's, and they are approximately two years old. When I looked in the Cat-eLog information, it stated that breeding was "unreported", so that is part of the reason that I have these questions. Also, when I ...

Re: oddball among the albino ancistrus
Hey guys! I just discovered this post, and I think I have something to report, that is going to add to this discussion. Several weeks ago, I had (2) males and several female ancistrus in a 65-gallon tank, while I was doing some rearranging of tanks. ALL of those ancistrus/bushynose were gold with ...

Re: Supplemental Light For Fish Photography
Hey Larry... Funny you should mention it. I had a recent experience with one of those lights. I needed to pull a beautiful display/planting of Najas Guadalupensis out by the roots the other day, because I was going to use that tank for a different purpose. The plant was so pretty that I hated to ...

Wow gentlemen -- what a great discussion! I just returned home from the Great State of Arkansas, and I'm eager to study your responses. I want to thank all of you, again, for these weighty and thoughtful responses. I get all excited reading these, and take in the information like a thirsty sponge ...

Re: After success with Ancistrus, what next???
First, many thanks, you guys, for those suggestions. I had been hoping that there would be a few options for me. I have to admit, I'm pretty excited to try another species. I read your responses carefully, then used the P.C. site to look up all of the L-numbers that were mentioned in your responses ...

Also depends on what you can get hold of. No point getting your heart set on something, only to find out it is unobtainable. Do a few tours of your local shops, and make a list of available species you might like to breed. We can then tell you which is your best bet. :D Hi, Your suggestion seems ...

After success with Ancistrus, what next???
Hello Everyone! A little more than one year ago, I began breeding Ancistrus, (Albino L144). That has been going well. I've also been raising breeding groups of the longfin variety and a calico variety, and those are close to breeding age/size. Now I would like to pursue keeping and breeding of a ...

Re: Supplemental Light For Fish Photography
Hi Mats! Hmmm... very interesting there, and THANK YOU for that idea. I certainly did not think of using a camera flash unit. But since it's a strobe-type light, how do you "trigger" it, to get the light at the moment you need it? Do you have an "extension cable" for that purpose? (I'm rather new to ...

Supplemental Light For Fish Photography
Hey guys! From time to time I remove a fish from its aquarium, then place it in a small container, so I can take a photograph. The container is either glass or plexiglass, and is basically a very small aquarium. For those of you who are adept at photography, I'd like to ask for your input regarding ...

......from my experience, a cory spawning session lasts a few hours, it's ok to retrieve the eggs during the spawning session if you're afraid they will be eaten. They'll get scared for a few minutes but will resume spawning. I do this with my pandas because they are vigorous egg eaters! ......each ...

Re: Is there a Sera fish food expert in the house?
I mostly trade in fish for the Sera food at LFSs. The fish seem to notice the catfish chips more than other wafer-type foods. If not, I order from Drs Foster & Smith. It's a relatively new line for them. Ken's Food is also good: the Veggie sticks and flakes are made from real vegetables; earthworm ...

C. Pygmaeus: Sometimes it's easier than we expect.
Hello everyone, About one month ago, I made my first post on this forum. In that post, I asked for information to help me determine if my (24) C. Pygmaeus were sexually mature. (At that time, and still today -- I believed that they were not full grown, but thought that they might be "mature".) I ...

Just another thought on this, in response to certain of the comments... I suppose that most of us have known at least one aquarist who has had trouble keeping certain livebearers. So inasmuch as that is the case, there is an element of "challenge" there, to keep them alive and healthy. But when I ...
