Re: rescued plec, please ID

Mats,

I just got the same reply from Jon myself. Looks like we both went right to the source. And he's right that pic of his specimen isn't the best for a live ID. I also got a copy of his 2004 article from him with the key to Loricariidae. I'll be changing my "my cats page later". Looks like I'm ...

Re: Pterygoplichthys scrophus

Metric may be better for distance and weight, but temp is best measured in dergrees Farenheit rather than Celcius. A F degree is a smaller incriment than a C degree. So you can get better temp control with a Farenheit thermometer. It may not be so be so critical with most fish, but when I bred ...

Re: rescued plec, please ID

I don't copyright my pics. i take them so we can share knowledge and hopefully get good info out there for everyone to share. You can send them on for a positive ID and post them in the ID section if you'd like. If you're satisfied they are P. multiradiatus I can take a few better ones as my ...

Re: Wild Caught Zebra questions

Okay. Here is how Filial (F#) generation work.

Parents P generation
first filial generation F1
crosses from those F1s (same parents) F2
F2 crossed to another F2 (bro and sis) F3

and so on....
If you cross animal with its parent (F1xP, F2xF1, F96xF95, etc...) This is a backcross
If you cross any ...

Re: L136? i dont think so....details in thread

I don't see why not. it would depend on the wood, though. you want to make sure its not toxic to the fish. I'm not very familiar with Australian trees unfortunately. i know what Melaleuca is though and that funny Wollembi pine. You may want to ask around. In the States and Europe oak leaves work ...

Re: rescued plec, please ID

I think we had a misscommunication on the last post. I will retract my statment that it is not Pardalis. Pardalis OFTEN has chevrons, not always, so that's a "my bad" on me.

But, the only ventral pics in the weberi article are of weberi and punctatus. so I'm not sure why that was brought up???

but ...

Re: L136? i dont think so....details in thread

I'm more familiar with brumating reptiles than fish, and I've never kept Panaque myself, but in a lot of species sperm production is triggered by a lowering of the temp for a while. So lowering the temp and letting the water acidify (adding oak leaves or other tannin rich leaves works well too) may ...

Re: rescued plec, please ID

Hey everyone. I don't see any chevrons on that fish. Can't be a Pardalis. My bet is with multiradiatus.
you can't just look at ventral spotting to ID these. I use the taxanomic key in "Redescription of Pterygoplichtyhs punctatus and description of a new species of Pterygoplichtyhs" Search for the ...

Re: a 10 pnts question-pics version

Hey everybody this is my first post here, so be gentle. i know we established oli's fish is a P.pardalis, but I wanted to let you know how hard P. multiradiatus really is to find. I get them at PetSmart in Ohio. Just look for the golden colored plecos in with all those pretty black ones. When they ...
