Re: Japanese shop stocklist
yes, i figured they were for feeding other fish, but I mean, it's the only food they list , at all. couldn't they eat like Hikari massivore tabs or carnivore tabs? do they only feed real fish to other fish in Japan? :?: And it was a bit sad to see all those goldfish listed as food I admit. :oops ...

Re: Freeze in Florida threatens tropical farms
I wish all the luck and future success for the Floridan farms. But, don't you all think it's due to global warming? It's unusually cold here in Japan this year. Something is weird.

Re: How do you cool the water temperarure down?
There's a low-tech way of cooling the tank. Leave the cover off and position a fan so that it blows across the water surface. The water will be cooled somewhat by evaporation. You wouldn't want to do this all the time, obviously, but it might help during a heat wave.

Re: A news about Pangasianodon gigas
I've no idea what the intention is for the breeding programme, but assume it is for food-fish purposes (for human consumption), rather than the ornamental trade.
From my understanding, the breeding program is meant for conservation purpose, though, of course, the first reason for the species ...

A news about Pangasianodon gigas
Hi, guys! So, I was reading this month's volume of a Japanese aquarium magazine, "Aqualife" and was shocked by the news on the page for newly-coming fish: CITES I-listed Pangasianodon gigas, Mekong Giant Catfish, was legally imported to Japan for commercial purpose! According to the article, the ...

1320 litters
! Is it a normal size in Norway or other European nations? It's definitely a gigantic tank here in Japan. Not that many people in Japan can afford that kind of tanks and house to store them: the weight would damage the floor if not penetrate it.
I'm simply amazed

Re: Help!
I'm so sorry to see this. I'm definitely NOT an expert, but Japanese hobbyists usually don't treat catfish with medicines, for they are very vulnerable to chemicals. We usually raise the water temperature to 31℃ and see if the white patches disappear in a couple of days. If not, dissolve some salt ...

How do you cool the water temperarure down?
Hi, there! I've joined this site a couple of days ago. As I mentioned on my introduction note, I don't own any aquarium currently. But, I might set up some this spring. The problem is that summer in Japan is awfully hot (the air temperature often reaches 37℃ =98 degree Fahrenheit  ) and a ...

Hi, I forgot to introduce myself. How rude am I? I'm a Japanese citizen of age 28, though Id spent 9 years in the US, San Diego to be specific, till Í came back to my native country last August. I don't own any catfish right now (I'm simply broke and don't have enough space), but I've always loved ...
