Re: 3x Panaqolus (cf?) Maccus in the Netherlands

Hello everybody, to clarify a couple of things: with the 'cf' I meant that they appear to be p. maccus to me, but that I am not sure. In regard to Smitty, I have tried these together with the l239, but I have come to the conclusion that I would rather rehome them. The l239 are about four times their ...

3x Panaqolus (cf?) Maccus in the Netherlands

Had these for about six years, will only go to a committed fishkeeper. Trying to rehome them because my girlfriend has recently switched to a fully planted tank, and they obviously eat her whole decor :)) I don't want to mix them with my group of l239 in my own tank due to territorial disputes ...

Re: L239

I am strongly considering taking out my shoal of C. Sterbai, at least untill the younger ones grow a bit. Right now I see they all eat, but I'm not too happy about it, as I feel the l239's are more likely getting the scraps instead of some big meals.. Did you have any trouble acclimatizing them?

Re: What does your username mean?

Alleykat is the model name of the first electric guitar I bought at age 18.. It doesn't use my actual name, (Tjerk) which can be a bit of a hassle especially in English (you're named jerk!) and Spanish (your name is tgerek?!) conversation. I also like the 'misspelling' of it. When available I use it ...

Re: L239

Same here, I have 2 adults and 8 younger ones, and the two big ones are fiercely territorial with the food. I am feeding in several places across the tank, so each gets their share. Interesting comment, I posted a thread a while back about moonlighting. Are your l239's more visible with those lights ...

Re: L239

:-BD that's not bad
I find them to be a bit skittish, so having them in plain view is nice! a.nd 3-4" is a good size to buy them. Mine came between 1.5 and 3 inches, so the little ones have some catching up to do;-)

true, thanks for that! are your l239 not up for some romance right now? mine are growing nicely, and I have been fortunate enough to have gotten all 8 of them through quarantaine. Do yours eat a lot of wood? My two adults appear to be shredding as if they were panaque's, but it might also be the p ...

Hi Jac,

that's great! Wanted to tell you that I recently bought a group of eight of these to supplement my 2 males:) They're still in quarantaine right now, and quite small (4-7cm). Curious to see how things progress this time. Good luck!

moonlight lighting any use/good?

Hi everybody, who has any experience with moonlight lighting in freshwater tanks? I saw a relatively cheap (40 euros) unit in a shop, and it seems a nice way of seeing a bit more of my l239's just after lights out. The shopowner claims that 'fish can't perceive the light', (which, curiously enough ...

Hi all, anybody have any experience with hemigrammus ulreyi ? I can't find a lot on the net. Behaviour, are they shy, or nippy? Re: who has experience with l239 in groups?

hi geoff, thanks again. would you say these guys are quite shy in general? (compared to other pleco's?) or do they thrive more when in a group? getting them to the food was one of my worries as well, although the sterbai's can hardly be described as pushy. so far it has been fine, and they have been ...

Re: who has experience with l239 in groups?

hi geoff, thanks for your reply! there will be a shoal of bentosi's in the tank, and some c. sterbai. as of now there is plenty of woodwork, with a lot of stone caves as well. I try to make as many hideouts as possible, so that there will be more caves than fish. there is quite a lot of structure in ...

will baryancistrus interbreed?

Hi all,

I currently have one l18/177 in one of my tanks and am considering the following;
if I would add for example some b. beggini, would they hybridize? the l18 is around
2inches in length, so still a juvi. Thanks!

hi all, thanks for the replies! only consideration i would have with those.. is 15 to 20 cory's (not the midget species like hastatus, habrosus or pygmaeus) not quite a lot for a tank with this footprint? i mean filtration will be pretty efficient, but still... i do know that they don't produce ...

pl*co's: solitary or shoal?

Hi everybody, whilst browsing the site, I keep on considering one question; as I have 'learned' through my years of fishkeeping, most pl*co's et al are being kept as solitary fish. However, breeders often keep a group of them in a spacious tank. Is it known wether pl*co's form groups or shoals? or ...
