Re: L2464- is this a wild hybrid?

Wild caught hybrids are very rare to see. If you're saying around 50 a year have been imported for around about a decade then that sounds like the collection of a specific locality, probably by a specific exporter / importer and it represents a population or undescribed species. Because something ...

It isn't. Marbled Pseudohemiodon has curvy head but these new ones' heads are triangular.
Marbled one was discovered for more than 5 years . :d

Re: Just caught this beautiful Hypancistrus!

What about the size, body shape, and behavior differences?

L66 is a much bigger fish, body lenghth can be 15cm.
L236 is much smaller, maximum body length is just 12cm.
L66 is a much robust fish when it reaches adult size.

There is also behavior difference between these two sp.
L236 is the most ...

Re: Just caught this beautiful Hypancistrus!

Just a thought here. I have a copy of Loricaiids of the Middle Xingu from 2013 by Mauricio Camargo, Heriberto Gimenes Junior, Leandro melo de Sousa and Lucia Rapp Py-Daniel. It is a dual language book in German and English. The following statement appears on page 174:

Re: Just caught this beautiful Hypancistrus!

An exporter sent this pic to me, said he caught this fish, and ask me to buy it. I asked if I can use his photo, he said yes. So I put a watermark on it. If this photo is belonged to someone else I remove it right away.

Here is a wild L236 I received last month, cheers. :d

They are very similar to Pseudohemiodon apithano: they can change color!
And both black and brown morph are found.

Nice one :)

Enjoy it while it lasts, it will grow normal later on.
Some zebra's are even born white without stripes and suddenly get the stripes after 6-12 months.

Please take a look at its body shape, this one is not what you think. I have those abnormal look zebras too, their stripe break but ...

In addition

From the marking to tell the difference is really controversial because same species can have different variance. But, that is the only thing we can do now.

C.coriatae and C.fowleri relationship? How to ID them

C.coriatae is a relatively new species found in 1997.
Is it a new species? Or, it is a subspecies of C.fowleri ?

It really hard to say, because their body shape is nearly identical, and their body marking pattern is very similar too.

What I figure out about how to tell the different between them ...

Almost all the longnose species love sandy gravel ( I prefer to provide powderlike sand mix ).
Not too much plant, put some rock or wood inside.

hi everyone, thank you for replying me.
This tank is little bit small, but they are okay.
Last week I just get 15 eggs from three C. coriatae. 2 males vs 1 female.
They spawned in this little tank, ha.
The babies are all hatched out the day before yesterday.
