Re: Hybrid Multipunctata
I also have a hybrid syno, who is the star of my tank! I don't know enough to reliably sex this fish, but we call "her" Domino, because of her coloring. Congratulations on scoring a really special pet for your tank. Domino, is almost 9 inches long and gets alon beautifully with everyone else in my ...

Re: If not a Channel Cat, then what?
I figured it out (thanks, of course, to MatsP and Silurus)! My "Channel Cat" is, instead, a Ameiurus natalis , or Yellow Bullhead Catfish. I've really been happy with the little guy and it looks like he won't bust out of my tanks any time soon, so now I'm even happier with him. he's found a cave ...

If not a Channel Cat, then what?
I have a new cat that we pulled out of the Yakima River yesterday that has us a little confused. Everything about it says that says Channel Cat, but everything I've read about them shows a deeply forked caudal fin, which he does not nave any sign of. he is now only about 3 inches long and enjoying ...

Re: ADVICE PLEASE.. 4ft Coral Malawi Tank.. Catfish Info Nee
I have to agree with the members who are suggest a syno of some sort. I have a hybrid that I rescued form the LFS (some one came by and dropped it off and they didn't want it) and she is the absolute star if my tank. After a long discussion here, we came to the conclusion that at one of her parents ...

How much is too much?
I am having cycling problems in my 37-gallon tank because I had to tear down my 18 gallon before I was fully ready to. In the last week I have lost some of my favorite fish and I am scrambling to try to get back ahead of it with large volume water changes. To avoid stiring up my substrate as much as ...

Re: Air breathing Corys
The Eclipse 3 hood on my 37 gallon tank moves a lot of water, but I have the return nozzles aimed so that there are areas of calm in the tank, as well, and my betta (red, white, and blue!) has his choice of resting among the plants, or playing in the current and he seems to enjoy both! I have two ...

Re: Air breathing Corys
None of them ever stay put for very long and two of them seem to think that they're tetras, swimming at mid-tank a lot of the time! I am relieved to hear that they dashes to the surface are normal and the fact that they are doing ot lessoften is also a good sign.

Air breathing Corys
I was just reading a post that was talking about a cory-mimicking cat and one or the replies made a comment about a cory behavior I've seen, but never saw for what it was: ...a group of corys dashes up one after the other to swallow air... My c.aeneus used to go zipping to the top of the water ...

I got mine from a shop called Pet Land. The one I go to is in Pasco, Washington and the people there are great. It is a chain, though, so there may be one near by. Did you try liveaquaria.com? thay ship from California and guarantee their fish.

Re: which pl*co for newbie?
Any chaetosoma, or parotocinclus jumbo. Both fish are sociable, entertaining and stay small enough that a group of them will work in your tank. I have both and love them. Both are pricipally diurnal, so you will actually see them and highly animated. The Pitbulls (parotocinclus) are spectacular ...

I have a pair of these guys in my Eclipse 37. You won't see much of them, or their personalities for the first week, or so, and it can be a challenge to get them to start eating. Once they decide that their new home is ok, they are great fish! I got mine from PetSmart, as did the PC member who ...

Thanks, Mats and L-number
It looks much better now. I did have to remove the floss from the filter, because it was causing the filter to overflow down the back of the tank. The tank is clearing up pretty well, anyway.

Re: Help, please! I have a tank full of mud!
I have one small one up, as I updated my tank info. I'll post some more as I can get decent ones. I am really happy with this new set up. it's about 80% clear, so I should have some good ones soon. Among this community, it's probably not anything special; not a biotope, or species tank, just a ...

Redtail/Shovelnose hybrid on Craigslist
My Better Half sent me this link a few minutes ago: http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/pet/1681162754.html I know everybody's feelings about hybrids, but this one's already out there and it sounds like it's a great and well-loved pet. Thanks, Mats and Racoll. Re: Help, please! I have a tank full of mud!
I've guessed already that I didn't rinse the substrate well enough. I never really had an issue with it before, because I always used the pre-packaged gravel that has some sort of epoxy coating on it. I chose the flourite this time, because everything I read about it said that it is the best ...

Help, please! I have a tank full of mud!
I finally set up my 37 gallon Eclipse to take the place of my 18 gallon Via Aqua VA-680 aquarium. The substrate is divided between flourite with live plants in back and silica sand in front, to provide an open viewing/swiming area for the gang. My problem is that the flourite has clouded the water ...

Re: Anyone know what this Native (UK) fish is?
It had large eyes compared to it's head and a vaguely striped (Vertically) pattern of brown and silvery cream. It almost sounds like a young bass of some sort. Never having been to the UK, I can't make even a reasonable guess about what is and isn't native, so I don't know if a bass is even a ...

Re: Is it a MUST to have CO2 for a tank with plants?
I have had great luck with a planted tank without any sort of CO2 system (someday, though...) and my plants are thriving and my fish are loving them. One caution, though: Plants create oxygen during the day, as we all know and expect, but I was surprised to learn that they are net consumers of ...

Rubbernose?
I have two fish that I picked up at PetSmart near the Portland, OR Airport. They had them listed as "Rubberlipped" Plecos, which I can't find in the Cat-eLog. They are nearly identical to the pictures listed for the Chaetostoma sp_aff_milesi , so I thought I had found my fish, until I read on the ...
