Re: Sexing L397
Hey
Thank you, thats what i tought too.
I had them up looking at them, and 1 had much longer odontodes, than the other 3.
At what size do they start breeding?
Right now i only feed them with vegi tablets, can i feed them frozen foods like bloodworms and artemia, to get them in condition?

Re: L46 male eating eggs?
First spawn i saw one egg outside the cave,it was pure white, but else only the females have a sunken, and were active around the cave, so i think he eats them instandly.
I keep then in 30 degrees water.

Can anyone help me sex these fish?
Fish 1: Fish 2: Fish 3: I got 5 fish, but i cant get the last too out from the caves, so i suspect them to be males.
It unfortunately looks like i got 5 males, so i feel kinda sad, when the seller said it was 2.3

L46 male eating eggs?
I'm 99% sure my zebras have spawned because one of my females has quite a sunken belly, and i saw a white thing flowding around in my aquarium. I Think is the first time my male have spawned. But my question is: is it normaly the male will eat the eggs the first time? The eggs were probably ...

Re: Hypancistrus zebra?
I would like to collect my own fish too, but when you live i Denmark, you can only find not so exciting fish, they are all cold water fish and really would suffer duing the summer, if kept in an aquarium. We have some pikes, perch, trout and some eels, most of them grow quite large. Some day i most ...

Re: Hypancistrus zebra?
You misunderstand me, maybe my not so good english is the reason.
When I write investment may perhaps think that I compare them with shares, I do not.
What I wanted to write was that when they live as long as they do, they are worth spending money on, even if they cost 100 times more than a guppi.

Re: Hypancistrus zebra?
It matches more with what I was thinking. I see Hypancistrus Zebra as an investment, compared with guppies who only live for a few years. So money is well spent, when the fish can live for two decades, and still be breeding. I ask because I'll be buying 4 more adult zebra's too my group on Sunday. I ...

Hypancistrus zebra?
For how long can a zebra pleco keep breeding?
I mean how old are they, when the stop being sexual active?
And how long is the estimated lifespan?
I read about 10-15 years old, but somehow i think they can get older.
What is the oldest zebra you have heard of or have?
Regards Kristoffer

Re: L107/L184 die 3 weeks after hatching?
Like apisto say, i think there's to much protein in the food you are using. 43% in the Tetra tabimin. 44% in the Tropical super tabin b. They are much better to corydoras and hypancistrus. I use the Tropical super tabin b for my Hypancistrus zebra. I would recommend you to use JBL NovoFect and ohter ...

What do you feed with Jacob?
Ancistrus can't handle to much protein, especially young fry.

Re: Hard water and zebra's
Ok ty.
600 microsiemens won't be a problem then, but i heard some person have bred them in a malawi tank
I have one more question: When i change water, will it be okay to change 50% with small fry around 1 cm, so the temperature lowers to 25 degrees from 30?

Hard water and zebra's
How hard water can Hypancistrus zebra spawn in, and will the eggs hatch? Have anyone spawned zebra's in water with around 1000 Microsiemens? Number 2 from the top is certainly a female.
I'm not 100% sure about the bottom one to the right, could be both, but my guess would be a female too.

Re: Breeding L46 hypancistrus zebra
I didnt change any water for 2 weeks, then feeded with high protein diets, like Repashy meat pie. I changed 50% with cold soft water after 2 weeks, it lowered the temperature from 30 till 25 degrees. That mate them spawn, I have had 3 spawns so far, last one unfortunately eated by the male, but i ...
