Re: L201- Colombian Snowball

The local fish store could be a good price if it has survived shipping and has transitioned to your local water.

In the past I ordered L14 twice, once the shipment was lost and another time DOA. At least I didn’t have to pay. Bird in the hand?

Re: How many years have you known the zebra pleco?

I’ve never kept it either, but I remember seeing snub nose ones being sold at half price at the Catfish Convention 6-8 years ago, and being very tempted. I was hoping to see some more at this year’s Catfish Convention- maybe in 2022...

Different but related question. So does a quarantine tank for ottos also need to be heavily planted? Could it just be filled with floating plants like guppy grass, cabomba, etc?

What is your TDS? I think I read somewhere on this forum that hard water makes the eggshells hard so fry have trouble hatching.

Has anyone tried Kokedama java moss wrapped Amazon Sword w/ plecos?java moss wrapped Amazon Sword

So I bought from Petco yesterday an Amazon Sword wrapped in in java moss (aquatic kokedama?). My guess is that the sword is still in one of those slotted pots use for hydroponics, with just java moss growing on it. I thought I'd experiment to see if, by keeping this higher in the water column, it ...

Re: Need advice from rare pleco breeders, please.

Not a breeder, but thinking creatively- could you add on a sump tank to this tank? With more water volume you may have better water quality, and if any fry end up in the sump it’s easier to catch them and transfer to a grow out tank.

Re: How will Gold Nugget fare in my hard water?

Not about soft or hard water, but some people think that the GN and other similar plecos lose their gut flora with the use of antibiotics and medications before shipping, and when they arrive, they starve even with good food available. The supposed solution is to put them in a tank with small ...

Mine likes blanched zuchinni. Maybe try rubbing the zuchinni with cut garlic (which acts like an appetite stimulant). Or try Thera+ New Life Spectrum (which has garlic).

Re: Can you tan a pleco?

Maybe feeding plecos with food rich in beta carotene may be more effective to bring out the reds.

I think I remember seeing plecos kept in outdoor tanks ( L14?) kept in the tropics, and they did seem richer in color. Maybe it was the sunlight, or maybe something else.
