Feeding Multipuncatus
I've heard many ways of adding gelatin to a frozen mixture of foods for our catfish. What do you add to the mixture and what is your process of making the food?

Hey look, it's the man that got me into this mess. How you been Paul? I've had the fish for about a year now and I'd assume they were pretty old when I got them because of their rather large size. They aren't wild, but I might just buy some as my patience runs low. I'm using A. calliptera these guys ...

Breeding size for S. multipunctatus
I have ten of these little guys that range from 3"-4". I bought the host cichlids along with the catfish but the cichlids are already breeding and ready for the catfish. At what size will these catfish breed? Also, what M/F ratio should I use to breed...does it matter?

Multipuctatus housing
I have some multipuctatus that I would like to house in a 55g with some Cyprichromis leptosomas a free swimming fish from Tanganyika. This is a breeding group and I don't want the catfish to stop them from breeding. However, they are a pure open water breeder with females dropping eggs and picking ...

Yes, that is exactly like my fish, however this really doesn't make any sence. If I am correct, an albino cannot be crossed with the wild form to produce blotches... isn't albanism a recessive trait? Your wild form is dominant? How can you get blotches, alternative spicing..? Little lost here, as it ...

Calico bushy nosed pl*cos?
Well, it's resorted to me asking questions on this because I'm lost. A while ago a friend of mine and president of my local club bought some fish from Germany and they came in not quite what he ordered. They were these "Calico bushy nosed pl*cos". He had them forever and never even thought twice ...

So this is most likely breeding behavior? The do go in circles together so maybe it is time to move them into their own tank with some pots and marbles huh? I also just watched a video of two of them spawning and that is just about exactly what they were doing. Would I be able to see the eggs? I ...

Spawning petricola?
I have been noticing that my petricola males will do this "gliding love dance" next to the females. Since I cannot find any any information on exactly what they do when they breed I thought I would ask. The fish are in a community tank with several other tanganyikans and they seem to be doing this ...

I redid my 55g just for the multies. They will have to share with some more Tanganyikan tank mates until they are full grown but I think this will give them more room to grow than a little fry tank would. I would post pictures but because cichlid (see it's been blanked out) is in my url's it won't ...

If the hierarchy changes per spawn then why do you choose 3m/2f? Wouldn't 3f/2m work better? Just sparked the curiousity of why you chose that mixture of gender. Also, Ironman is sending me ten more mutlies and rufunding the price of the callipteras. He said he might have more in the tank that are ...

Wow, those guys might be quite young then. I guess I can always buy wild caught if my patients overtakes my will to get larger catfish. Otherwise, this is what I have planned: I have two 40g longs I plan to use for two groups of catfish and hosts. I will try to get 2m/3f of the catfish in each tank ...

Pretty much made sence. One thing I caught was: first you have to know how Synodontis detects c*****ds spawning in the area: by smell. In the talk with Paul I remember him saying that before cichlids breed they release sounds. Although pharamones are released and do play a part. Sound travels much ...

When stripping do you strip everything out of the female into a tumbler? You don't seperate the catfish eggs from the host? Do the catfish eat the host eggs if done this way? Is that what you want? I remember saying you stripped once a week. How long do you tumble for? When and what did you feed ...

S. multipunctatus hosts
Paul E. Turley came and spoke to my club this last week on catfish and showed a video of the S. multipunctatus breeding with a host. I believe the fish was a Hap of some kind, but don't remember the full name of it  Anyone know what this fish was? What other fish make great hosts to breed with ...

new fish
I went down to the same breeder I got my Ancistrus from and bought 3 more. Since I have one female at home, I wanterd 2 males and 1 female so I picked out the two largest and the smallest one. In my expert fish area this is a good way to tell males from females when they aren't yet showing any ...

Yes, that is correct. However, I do not know of any animals that have the albino gene as a sex linked trait. Most sex linked traits are hereditary sicknesses or deformations. Cosmetic linked traits mainly remain genetic by both parents. Since albanism is the lack of pigment not a special kind of ...
