It's been 21 days since the male has released the fries (i.e. the fries are probably about 1 month old). I did NOT add any wood and so far, all 48 fries are alive! I fed only zuchini and cucumber - I didn't realize that they can eat hatched brine shrimps (do they???) I am begining to wonder if they ...

Thanks for the info - that really says they do consume wood. My fries are about 3 weeks old, and their poo are pure green - result of eating only zuchini...

I'll get some wood right away!

Hmm... So I should get some more wood for these guys, then! I figure they are around 3 weeks old since its been two weeks since the male has releaesd them. So far, as I mentioned, zero losses, so I was leaning towards the arguement of not needing any wood in their diet.... I guess better safe than ...

Do they actually need the wood in their diet? I get conflicting stories depending on who I talk to... I've been raising the fries now for about 2 weeks. I've been doing pretty much daily water changes (no choice as they make such a mess out of zuchini slices). They are still in the 5.5g tank, driven ...

Aha.... I was hoping to keep them until they reach 2cm or so, then move them to a larger tank - is this a bad idea? Smaller tank makes it easier for me to do water changes frequently, but if this is going to be a problem, I would definitely get a larger tank for this purpose. Regardless, which type ...

Raising bristlenose pleco fries successfully...

I will have my 3rd batch anyday now as the male has been guarding them for almost 2 weeks so far... I've completely lost the first two batches. - 1st batch were left in the original tank, and eventually all died except one. - 2nd batch were placed in an established 5.5g tank where platies used ...

For fries, do you blanch your cucumber? Also, I see seeds in those pieces - how do you make sure they don't spread all over the tank?

For my adults, I usually cut out the seeds, blanch them, then keep them in the tank until they are completely gone...

Thanks again!

Do bristlenose needs wood? I was under the impression that they are few of the plecos that don't need wood in their diet?

Raising bristlenose fries...

I've had now my second spawn from my albino bristlenose plecos. Unfortunately, I am having a hard time keeping them alive. I kept the original batch in the same tank as where the parents have spawned, thinking the water condition must be good for them to breed in the first place. So far, I have ...

BN pl*cos don't eat infusoria, so they wouldn't benefit much from java moss. Adding a bit is okay, but not so much that its hard to keep track of them. With tank size into the picturer, I would add a large filter. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the filter will need to be bumped up as well. I tend to ...

Where do you intend to raise the fry? Even a 10 gallon tank makes feeding a spawn of ancistrus quite challenging without doing daily water changes. The fry MUST have food in front of them most of the time or you will have constant losses. There just isn't enough water volume in the smaller tanks to ...

Breeding Bristlenose (Yeah!)

I purchased 4 juvs last October at 1.25 inches. It's been over 6 months since then and they have grown nicely. 3 of them turned out to be females and only one of them has shown the bristles. For some reason, only one of the female started to grow alot faster than the rest (inc. male) and she still ...

Also, what would be a good number to buy? Male to female ratio? (I'm planning to try breeding in 5.5g tank)...

Appreciate any feedback!

Great, I'll check out for local clubs (not sure where to begin though... :D )

As for the quantity, I'll stick with one tank per species so that I won't end up with more fries than I can handle...

Thanks for the advice!

C. pandas lay eggs usually one at a time. When they place eggs they are separated. If some of them fungus it is not a problem. Sometimes I will see one or two bad eggs in a batch. My best guess is that the eggs are over 90% fertile. I am curious what part of Canada do you live in? If you don't want ...

That method looks interesting, and it appears to be less work too... What size tank do you use for the initial transfer of the egg-contained java moss? I'd imagine using a large tank will make the fries really hard to look for food? I only have 4 cories as in my region, I only found one LFS that was ...

What is a spawning mop? I have a hard time imagining placing some net near the top of the tank above these fishes and gain something from it... I must be way off with this one... :D

Trying to breed panda cories

This is going to be my first ever attempt at breeding cories. I believe my pandas are around 8 months old (is this mature enough?) and two of them are clearly larger than the other two (2 females, 2 males?). My water parameters out of the tap (after 24 hours): - pH = 7.4 - GH = 5 - KH = 2 My ...

How fast do they grow compare to other cories? I remember reading an article that was suggesting that Sterbai's are real slow growers. Perhaps this is one of the reason for their high price?
