I still have 3 of the orginal 4 that I bought 2 years ago. They are all males! I bought another one that I think is a female probably 9 months ago. I would like to get a couple more females but prefer to buy adult fish so I can be sure that they are females. This is only possible if I get them from ...

Glad that I read this thread. I am getting 12 L333 that will be shipped from other state after New year. 10 of the smaller ones 3 - 4 cm are brown/yellow, while the larger ones 5 - 7 cm are black/white. When I saw the pictures, I thought that was because they change colour as they get older from ...

1) i have a piece of slate in there with gravel. they will move the gravel to create caves, which i find very interesting for ones this small. That is interesting behaviour. I have bare bottom tank, maybe I should consider a substrate. Caol_ila, thank you for the link. I think currently the link is ...

Has anyone managed to breed L104 (Panaque Maccus)?
I like to know if anyone has managed to breed L104 (Panaque Maccus) in an aquarium? I have looked on the internet but I can't find a specific report/discussion about a successfull breeding of this fish. I can only find a general info on breeding without the actual facts or proves. I have 4 L104, I ...

I have many white seam ancistrus fry died from this disease in the last few weeks. Can anyone tell me what it is. I tried Waterlife Protozin and Epsom salt but it didn't fix the problem. I can't use malachite green and meth blue because that will kill the fry. I also did many water changes hoping ...

Thanks for the advise.
The fish are looking better as they are no longer staying near the surface. I will do more water changes. As for cloudy eyes I am still not sure if water changes alone will clear the problem.

Fungus on uneaten food
Lately I notice that uneaten food are covered by fungus the following day. I feed my plecos at night mostly Hikari sinking Pellets and now whatever left is covered by fungus. Didn't have this problem before. I tried a couple of doses of Melafix but it doesn't help with the fungus. Nothing has ...

What medication should I use? Please help.
My ancistrus grow out tank has been infected by disease in the last 6 weeks and still no sign of getting better. I have lost so many fish I don't even bother to count them anymore. I have tried tetracycline, ti-sulfa, melafix, broad spectrum and white spot medication in vain. Before they died some ...

Melafix
The medication that I am using is Melafix, it smells like tea tree and it's a natural product. But I quess if it kills bad bacteria it will kill the good ones too. I have no choice as it will get to other fish if I don't medicate the tank. A large ancistrus had a bad fungus/bacteria growth on it's ...

My LFS gave me some yellow powder (1 dose) to kill bacteria that might have caused the problem. It's a veterian product and he is not selling them. The tank has been medicated for 4 days now and I still see fish with fungus like cotton wool on their mouths. I think if not eradicated it will ...

Flexibacter columnaris??
I have been searching on the net, I think it's probably Flexibacter columnaris. Bacteria not fungus. Apparently this can be transferred thorugh food. Recently I changed the staple diet to cyclop-eeze from sera flora flakes. I wonder if the food is contaminated or it polutes the water more than sera ...

Fungus looks like cotton wool has attacked my ancistrus tank
My ancistrus grow out tank has been attack by fungus that looks like very fine cotton wool. So far has killed at least half a dozen ancistrus and still affecting others. I have not used medication for a long time and this morning I decided to put a "cure all" medication (the green stuff) half ...

L135
Good luck with the breeding program. I hope you get them to spawn soon.
I also breed L183 and like to have rarer suckermouth like L134. I heard it's getting more common (still very rare), maybe someone has managed to spawn them on regular basis. I have never seen it personally.

Holiday tip
I would think changing the water and bringing the temperature down a couple of degree centigrade will help since it will reduce their metabolic rate. But 10 days I wouldn't think it's a problem at all providing they are healthy. Depending the type of filtration system you have and your tank setup ...

New tank
I you need a setup that is quiet than probaby 2 large external filters will do like eheim 2217, 2228 or fluval 404 etc. Trickle filter is great but can be noise.
If you can keep it nice and quite your Mrs will be happy too and she might even let you have another one next time.

How big is the cone? The one that they sell here is quite big, not sure if my ancistrus will feel secure in a large cone. They seem to prefer dark places.

Eheim
Yes I have tried few brands but now almost exclusively use Eheim. So far I don't have to replace any parts. Never have to replace impeller etc. I have one 2217 and over here it comes with ceramic rings and eheim substrate also pipe connectors which is handy to have. I also use the 2228 that does a ...
