Re: S Barbatus Egg Issue

My Barbatus would cluster spawn. Sometimes 4 layers thick. Since all of the eggs were in a cluster, fungus would spread quickly. Light causes fungus with eggs...so adding some methylene blue improved my sucess rate. As for soft water hatching...I believe the eggs are sensitive to TDS as well. When ...

Re: Gold Nugget

I'm glad I didn't post it then. I'll try to get a shorter video of them. The only videos I have on YouTube is Barbatus spawning (which you posted for me about 15 years ago) and zebra plecos spawning. I'm not sure who posted the Zebra video...but it wasn't me.

Re: Gold Nugget

When I try to post it to YouTube...it wants me to create a google account. I did get it posted on Facebook. I'm not sure if it's allowed to post the group here. It took hours to upload it. Now I know to keep vids about 30 seconds. This one is 1:45...and that's why I had issues.

Re: Gold Nugget

Ambull,
I do have a video, but I can't post it here. If you private message me your e-mail addy...I'm fairly sure I can send it that way. It's poor quality...but definetely shows the activity I mentioned earlier. I wish I could show it here...as it could be pre-spawn activity.

Re: Gold Nugget

I really think the water changes is what kept your Nugget alive. Everything I can find on Rio Iriri (and Rio Xingu) talks about pristine water conditions. I think that's why a lot of hobbiest Nuggets are lost. I'm sure I can get some good video in the morning...since nothing has changed. I just don ...

Re: Gold Nugget

Ambull - my guess is your Nugget wants a few friends. But it's only a guess. It could be any of 20 other things. Tank size. Water quality. Temp (mine is 83F). Other fish in the tank. Lighting. Cover

Re: Gold Nugget

Now I have to get a video. I was watching them this morning...and 4 out of the 6 were out and about. They were swimming back and forth - up and down the tank - using every inch of my 125 gallon. (so if you want larger ones - I recommend a 6' tank minimum). I'm pretty sure I can sex them already ...

Re: Gold Nugget

I just got my group of future breeders a few days ago. 6...L-177...between 4" and 5". They are extremely healthy, have no issues eating right out in open water (cucumbers and zuchinni), and only hide about 50% of the time. They eat the skin 1st, which surprised me. They also seem to take mini bites ...

Re: Are these Acanthadoras Spinosissimus?

Dave, I'm confused. Which species are you saying these are? They are about 4", so I'm guessing that they're (close to) adult size. They often send the wrong fish out of Brazil. I checked the links, and I didn't see any that looked like these. They could be still be stressed out, as I've only had ...

Nvcichlids - I see that you keep Altums (in your sig). I have 15 red faced altums (3" body size) coming in as well. But they'll be gone before you get back. I'll watch for them next time.

Re: L-18/47 ???

Sojapat - I should've worded that differently. By drying out, I meant returning to normal water levels. Manaus has more water then thier previous record, set in 1953. It's 100 feet higher then thier normal dry season level. They mark the water level on a flagpole each year. They had to build ...

L-18/47 ???

Has anybody heard of these fish? I have an opportunity to get large quantities of these...collected from the Sao Pelix area...on the Rio Xingu. They were descibed as having a gold seam around the entire fish (if I understood them right). They are priced close to regular L-18s...so I might take a ...

Re: Aspidoras Pauciradiatus

Thanks for quick replies. I do appreciate your response. Fortunately the other mistake they made was shipping Pulchers, instead of punctatus and agassizi. (2 very cheap cories here in the states). The Pulchers are very nice, and were a bit out of my price range before.

Aspidoras Pauciradiatus

Hi all. I recently received a shipment of pygmy cories from Manaus. I knew the fish weren't pygmies right away, but it took me until the next day to realise that they were Aspidoras. Thanks to Ian's book I was able to ID them. I've never seen these before around here. So my questions are: is this a ...

Re: What is the largest species of Corydoras?

I have at least 3 Robustus females that are 4-1/4". Not sure what that converts to in mm's, but I always get "WOWs" from people that see them!

Re: panda corydoras

I'm not sure on the mm conversion. But pandas will breed at about 2", and about 1 year old. I prefer to use a spawning mop for pandas, as the males are overly aggressive during mating.

I apologise for the crappy pic, but this is setup as a breeding tank...and I don't want to disturb the fish. The gold color was twice as bright before...and was also on the odontodes of the pectoral fins. Could this be spawning colors?

My current setup is a 30 gallon breeder, bare bottom. Rocks/driftwood/powerhead/slate/and 6 almond leaves for tannins. Primary diet is live blackworms, and frozen bloodworms. Robustus info?

Anybody have info on Robustus? It seems that they are collected in "Encontru Das Aquas" which I believe means: where the blackwater meets whitewater. Ian lists them at Rio Purus system, creek into Rio Ipixuna. That would make things extremely difficult for spawning conditions. Do they spawn in the ...

The odontodes on mine have turned a glittery gold on the pectoral and dorsal fins. Probably 10X as much as the orange showing in the pic above. Could this possibly be breeding colors? I didn't want to disturb the fish if they are getting ready to spawn. But I'll try to get pics, when I can.
