Normally the nitrates sit about 20 (just before the water change) so I guess something has changed to cause the sudden jump.

I have a sick pimelodus pictus - anyone help IDing the illness... Only noticed problem today. Floating up near top of tank, unable to balance/keep upright, swollen around head area, barbels are missing, some red/bloody area around fin on top of it's body. All other inhabitants in the tank seem fine ...

Just had to share that I found a black lancer cat fish at the LFS and just had to have it!! It's about 6cm, looks nice and healthy. Haven't seen one before, does anyone know if they are all that common in Australia? I'm very very excited in any case :D Just had to share, cos my non-fishkeeping ...

I'm afraid to admit Larry but I htink I killed the new ones :oops: I put in a dose of ich medicine into the quarantine tank last night as they had some ich spots and then this morning they were floundering. I put it a full dose, and I think I should have put in a 1/2 dose :( I did a 50% water change ...

He seems no different today, behaving normally, still looking skinny. I can give another dose of medicine today so I may do that. I made a huge mistake with my pims in quarantine :oops: I noticed some white spot and so changed 50% water and put in a dose of ich medicine. I accidentally put in the ...

Thanks guys. Was able to track down some Jungle labs Internal parasite guard, so have done the 25% water change and medicated the tank. Fingers crossed!

The bloke at the pet shop just said it was a "hypostomus spp" when I rang back to check the scientific name. It was a young fella that mentioned it was a choclate pleco. I like him chocolate or not, but it would be nice to know exactly what you are buying

Hi, Can anyone tell me, do you think my 5cm chocolate pleco is Pterygoplichthys scrophus. My local fish shop tells me it is a hypostomus, but the little fella has 11 rays on his dorsal fin which seems to indicate Pterygoplichthys. He is mottled brown.
