Re: Madtom with worms
I forgot to update yinz but.... a bout a week ago madtoms started hanging above the airstones, I'm assuming because the o2 was higher there. Soon after they both died. :( the next day the raph started hanging out above the airstones too, I'm assuming he was infected with the worms, possibly on the ...

I figured the snout thing was it. I guessed "longirostrus" was Latin for long nose. Could be wrong.....

Re: Synodontis longirostris (Cont)
Hahaha I figured I'd get yinz going. It kinda looked like the pix if syno.long. but I assumed it wasn't. Definatly right about the high school girl scooping fish. When I asked for "one of the synodontis" she scooped a "salt and pepper" cory. She sqid "hows this one?". When I told her that wasn't ...

Re: Madtom with worms
d'oh... it should be Tetra, not Terra. sorry. It says for anchor worms to treat once a week for three treatments with a 25% water change between. I think thats what ill do. I took some pix of the Syno in question. I started a new thread over in the African Catfishes section to keep this one on topic ...

Re: Madtom with worms
They were reduced from 15 to 4, a pretty big cut. Maybe the word got out that they were not "pure". Like I said he's pretty small now (about an inch), hard to tell if he's a mutt. He swims in an odd manner. Making fast level circles in the bottom of the tank. Idk, maybe he bumped his head when I ...

I picked up a pack of Tetra Parasite Guard. It has praziquantel, difflubenzuron, metronidazole and acriflavine. Let's see how it goes.
Side note: petsmart had syno longirostris for 4 bucks, got one. Their little guys now, about an inch.

Re: Madtom with worms
the tank is about 75 degrees. is that too warm for madtom? Im waiting until they get a little bit bigger to move them in with my sunfishes and channel cat. Both madtoms have moved from their caves to the corner where the airstone is. The seem to like swimming up and down in the current in the corner ...

Madtom with worms
My friend recently gave me 2 madtoms (stonecats i think) he collected in a local stream. They area about 3-4 inches long. Today I noticed one of them flashing against the rocks and saw 2 white worms attached to him. 1 near the dorsal fin and 1 near the eye. I could tell they were worms as they move ...
Re: Tank Help
The 2 fish look a lot better today. Their skin is cleared up, Ralph is whiter than ever. The only thing is they are constantly moving. When they were in the old set up they almost constantly hid but now always moving. I'm going to attempt to redecorate the tank today with their old furniture ...
Re: Tank Help
UPDATE:FF Syno is still alive and kicking. He constantly moving. when he was well he usually hid. His color looks worse though, sort of blotchy and grey. The edges of his fins are sort of frayed now and the lower part of his tail is missing. He has white fringes to all his fins and a white filaments ...

Re: Tank Help
I did a little research on hemorrhagic septicemia and it doesnt look too hopeful. (assuming this is what i have) It seems that this is what is killing my tank but according to what i have read it doesnt appear contagious, unless i was misinformed. All my fish (11-12) have succumbed to this. Today i ...
Re: Tank Help
I just added the airstones. I figured the extra O2 wouldn't hurt.
Should I cull the syno? What should I do w the 2 (striped Ralph and banjo) that appear un affected? What should I do to "sanitize" the tank?

Re: Tank Help
That would explain the redness on that syno on his belly by his anal fins wouldn't it?

Re: Tank Help
I have not added any new plants or fish in over a month. I never ran an airstone in the tank, just used 2 hang on back filters. I removed everything from the tank but put in the 2 pipes for cover. The smaller syno (laying on back) keeps trying to jump out. I just returned from a water test at the ...
Re: Tank Help
Heat is about 75 80. I have a thermometer.
I removed all the decorations. All that is in there is gravel and a plastic pipe.

Tank Help
Help! I have a well established 30 gallon tank. It had about 11 fish in it including banjo cat, striped Ralph, a few syno and 3 clown loaches and a random tiger barb. Saturday I noticed the barn MIA and cat was swimming oddly. He soon died. I did a 10 gallon change, siphoning all gravel and moving ...

i does kinda look like heater burn but i have a shield around my heater. Could it be from fighting with the 8 inch suncat? He sometimes grabs at the plec. when the food is around.

Re: pl*co shedding skin/slime?!
just finished a 1/3 water change. 100 Gallon tank.... thats a lot of trips with my bucket. i also noticed my hoplo has a tiny spot on his "snout". Couldnt get a good pic of Plec. Hes too fast and has too many places to hide. The skin under the peeling slime looks fine. Just white slime coming off.

Re: asian redtail
ANYTHING! Before mine died he was 24 inches and gobbled anything that would fit in his mouth. On NY eve a few years ago he had a Cory lodged in his mouth. My wife had to hold him while i snipped off fins and pulled it out with forceps. All types of sinking food were eaten. Pellets, algae wafers ...
