L183 Mature Male free to collect
I'm shutting down a Trigon 350 and have one large, mature male A. dolichopterus which I'm happy to give to a good home. You would need to collect by arrangement from Weston Turville near Aylesbury. Message me if interested.

Re: Zebra death (seriously is everyone losing them?)
I've used bleach routinely in the past both commercially and domestically and always without problems as long as it is well rinsed out. One thing that is very important however is to use bleach that does not contain lots of additives, perfumes, etc.

Re: Bad news, good news and a bit of a mystery
Having looked through the juvenile pics on PC, I reckon it is going to be the L201-types. Hopefully we'll see some live ones to confirm soon!

Bad news, good news and a bit of a mystery
First let's get the bad news out of the way - unfortunately, this one's dead. It's about 1cm long and I just found it it my 350L during a water change. The good news is that something seems to have bred. As yet, I can't spot any others. The mystery is I don't know what. It could be L201-type (never ...

Re: Changing Substrate - Gravel to Sand
Adding the sand to an established tank isn't too hard either. I've recently done this and the only things I would say are: 1. Get it reasonably clean. Although the filters will take the muck out, there's no point in chucking a load of dirt in there. 2. Get it up to room temperature at least. It's ...

then I wonder out of sheer curiosity who has done the trip from Alaska to Fireland by motorcycle? Short trip by ferry/fishingboat across Berings sea, and then across Russia and down through the middle east into Egypt or so. It's quite a long way, but that's what "adventure touring" is all about ...

Re: maidenhair fern - how to keep? alive?
I keep my ferns in the bathroom. Seem to like it there, low light, high humidity. My Phalaenopsis also love the bathroom windowsill and are almost constantly in flower. It only gets direct light in the early hours of the morning but is kept fairly warm. Might have a go with a fern, they look really ...

Re: Setting up natural cory habitat tank from scratch -- adv
It's probably worth mentioning that the beach sand will almost certainly not be suitable for this project but the play sand should be fine. You only need ~ 1/2 inch then it will get turned over and won't go anaerobic.

Maybe it's your fishy pheromones
Seriously, they won't hurt you just by brushing against you. You would need trap them against something to get enough pressure to cause you an injury from one of their spines.

To my untrained eye those last three all look the same. Interestingly, they all have ~9 stripes in the tail whereas the original pic has only ~6. Don't know if that's significant though.

Heteropneustes fossilis / microps
Just noticed that the clog says this: 'Species Information Size 500mm (19.7") SL. Find near, nearer or same sized spp. Identification Easy to confuse with the very similar, but rarer H. microps. The difference lies in the anal and caudal fins are joined in H. microps and distinctly separate in H ...

There was also a Heteropneustes fossilis on there I highly doubt it would have been that. More likely a misidentified Schilbe , since I hardly expect the Louvre to be the last word on fish identification. From the bit I could see, it definitely had a very nice set of Heteropneustes fossilis type ...

Re: like big catfish? read this first!
I too am against licensing but I fear that is where this will end if the industry cannot regulate itself. IMO 'It says on the label that it grows to 3 ft' or 'I told him it grows to 3 ft and he said don't worry he has a big tank' are just not good enough if the trade does not want outside ...

Re: like big catfish? read this first!
I think the difference is Sid, that when you buy a gun you know what you are buying. Most fish shops sell fish that will get much too big for most tanks, an example being . How many of them make this clear to their customers?

Re: like big catfish? read this first!
Act responsibly yes, but to do that you need to base your decisions on accurate information and I think that's the problem. How many shops truly give good advice? Sure there are some, but there are at least as many that employ part-timers or young fish-keepers who frequently do not have sufficient ...

The responsibility for 'monster' fish must lie with the importers. If they were not imported in the first place none of this would be an issue.

Congrats on the fry. They were (are!) my first 'Cory' spawning and I found them very robust and easy to raise. As Frank says, just follow Ian's sticky. Good luck!
