Re: Water flow for plecos
on my pleco tank i have 580gph movement on the 20gallon tank. For plecos having spots where the water is really fast and spots where there is no movement is key. At times they will prefer faster movement , but when they sleep I find they enjoy a slower current.

bad angle on the fish to the left, but comparing they both look male to me. The "hips" don't have a curve to them and that usually indicates female.

Re: Oto with a serious problem, what is this ?
ottos are unfortunately not very hardy fish. with an average lifespan of 2 years they don't last long. I find that they are very easily fine one day then dead the next. I had several ottos for over 5 months one day they both just died. within hours of each other. None of the other fish were affected ...

Re: Help with cory barbels.
i have had mixed experiences with corys barbels and i am a skeptic on the constant advise of using sand with corys. I have kept my corys with large smooth gravels and sands. my corydoras delphax have almost 1/4 inch barbels and haven't had any problems. Your may be do to either barbel infection ...

Re: how to bring down tank temperature?
corys have the ability to live in warmer water of up to 90 degrees F is necessary ( for short periods of time). to help cool my tanks in the Louisiana summer ( which is btw over 100 degrees at times) I remove the lids of the tanks replace them with wire mess to stop jumpers and escapees. Then i'll ...

then you know more than i do about the soil structure of the amazon. lol i can only read not see. I did read an article saying they liked to bury themselves in mud. My corys while active in the morning are very scared of people. They tend to be shy and when approached cluster up under or in ...

Re: "cory health query"
Yes, but the origin of this thread is to find a cause for poor health in your fish, and if every time someone points out a potential cause, you immediately come back with "but that's OK because " followed by some sort of inaccurate/misunderstanding, it is quite useful to try to rectify that ...

Re: Lethargic Peppered Cory
This unusual behavior usually is because of stress. Wether that stress is fron bacteria, other fish, the water, salt, or chemicals I don't know. I'd move him to a new tank and treat him with medicated food or melafix. If you have no other tanks a bucket will do. Keep him in their about 3 days. Then ...

Re: River sand - cories don't seem to like sand?
I doubt you watch your cories all the time. They tend to stay in a safe cave or in a corner of the tank when your watching. However about 1am if you watch them with no lights you will see amazing things. I see my cories dancing across the tank schooling in groups of three. They parade around doing ...

“Thus for that second my device takes it's reading their is more than saturation.” I can’t speak for you, but most DO monitors do not measure dissolute oxygen as that would defy the purpose of the machine. Note also that what Ian doesn't know about corys is either REALLY obscure, or not worth knowing. So if he can't tell the difference, I don't think anyone can. -- Mats What ...

I ruled out Corydoras melanistius because of lack of pattern on tail.
I can get a good picture of the tail and the top fin tomarrow. maybe...

Re: "cory health query"
as the cories breath they would consume the o2 dissolved into the water so technically the bubbles rising to the top in the time would slowly be dissolved on a minute scale. Thus throwing my meter off. By having oxygen reading high than saturation it is insured that my water has full o2 saturation ...

Pardon me sounding like an ass , but really are you going to suggest the two things i specifically said i know it is not? Of course my water can't have more dissolved o2 than water can hold. That’s why their is bubbles. However the measurement device i use also factors in the amount of o2 being r ...
