PyGMy tankmates

Did a search for this thread and realized the typo in my original post. Oops  The pencilfish are AWESOME tankmates for pygmy corys. I have 3 different types in with my C. habrosus and C. pygmaeus. They all shoal together. In the morning when I turn on the lights and feed them they all go ...

My cats (and other fish) really enjoy the new set-ups. I added some river stones and sprinkled in some gravel around the corners. My plants look like crap though...snails  Here are some recent pics (should've cleaned the glass): http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7786/tri38iw.th.jpg http://img9 ...

My clown loaches got ich shortly after I bought them. I treated them with Ick Guard II by Jungle Labs (http://www.junglelabs.com). It's labeled for "scaleless fish." My lot of four clowns all came through, even the wee little baby. I caught it pretty early though. I did 10% water changes (gravel ...

Re: gravel to sand swtich

Why take kuhlis when you have plenty of catfish which can do exactely the same? My banjos do just as well if not better than my kuhlis did at keeping things stirred up. My cories are having a blast in the sand. My clown loaches always seem to be having a blast no matter what. The black sand in my ...

That's pretty much what I did, and it worked for me... I just moved the occupants of a 75g with gravel and plants into my new place and their new tank, a 90 gallon. It's about a 2 hour drive. I bought some of the big (30 gallon, I think) Rubbermaid plastic totes. I filled them with old water from ...

Renie,
I just keep a few Kulhi loaches in each of my tanks to keep the sand from forming pockets of gas.
I also have a few plecs that dig, so I've not really had a problem.

I have black sand in mine, just a personal preference. I sprinkled some lighter gravel throughout one tank and there are a few river rocks as well.
The corys and the plecs like it.

How long until I can do my regular water changes?

No it has a hood, but the back of the tank has an opening for the filter that hangs on.
She (the cat, her actual name is Anonymous, she's a black DSH) is bad for drinking the water as it comes out of the filter. :x

My cat vs. my aquarium plants / Mystery ammonia spike??

I have a 20 gallon tall that I have plants growing in. It's been running for over a year and is completely cycled and such. I use it as a bristlnose grow-out tank. Well, recently the ammonia spiked for no apparent reason. I even lost a few BN's. It was weird. I did water changes (twice a day) for a ...

My L-200 was completely stuck in my small pleco cave

I was out of town for a couple days and when I came back I notice my L-200 had managed to squeeze into the smallest of the pleco caves. There are several in the tank of various sizes, all made out of clay. Why he chose that one, I'll never know... I noticed that he looked like he was ...

Frozen? Foods

I've been re-reading some posts on what everyone feeds their plecs to try and add more variety to my group's diet.
I have one quick question...
When feeding carrots, do they have to be frozen prior?
Just curious.
Thanks.

Yeah. Now that I think of it, it was for livebearers.
I can easily get a 10 gallon tank. I've not moved several of the spare tanks here yet.
I can put the newer filter in the 10 gallon.
Do you suggest a bare bottom, or a small anount of sand for the rearing tank?

Thanks a bunch.
