I have agroup of 8, of what i think are grandiops, in my mbuna tanks. When the cichlids spawn the frantic activity from the Syno's is great to watch. Had 3 fry recently, don't think they survived though. But ever hopeful!!
Shame that without female cichlids i don't think you will see this behaviour ...

Re: Unknown Syn - ID please
There is a population of S.nigromaculatus in Lake Mweru-Wantipa which has much larger spots, so could be nigromaculatus. But origin would make i.d. a bit easier.

Re: LOOKING FOR SYNO-LONGIROSTRIS ?
She's 7-8 inches now, hasn't actually grown that much since i've had her. Cost me £60.00.
I'll keep an eye out.

Re: LOOKING FOR SYNO-LONGIROSTRIS ?
Sorry wouldn't part with mine!
I got her from the aquatic shop in Hurrans Gardens centre near Newport. I've also not seen many, 6 or 7 in 20 years.

Re: What are these wc Synodontis?
The second fish does not seem to match any of the listed Guinea species. But how about S.ansorgii, the illustration in Poll shows similarities in shape, adipose and humeral process. Markings do not match, but Poll is not always that accurate on markings. And distribution is Guinea-Bissau.

Re: Comoensis or Tourei ?
I have read that comoensis goes through a big morphlogical change as it grows.

Synodontis sp. (9)
I'm pretty sure this species is S. ornatissimus
Gosse, J.-P. 1982.
Mutanda ichthyologica: *Synodontis polli* nom. nov. et *Synodontis ornatissimus* nom. nov. Cybium (Ser. 3) 48
Fishbase has same photo.

I have both as well and the colour is very different. The hybrid is a pale greyish with small spots over the body. The fin margins are pale as well and nothing like the striking white of the real thing.
I have thought that sorex could be one of the parents used in the hybrid.
But one thing that is ...

Synodontis sp.5
I have a young syno which looks like sp.5 i think from discussion they grow into adults that are like the fish shown in cat e-log as S.ornatipinnis.
The fish I have that looks like the adult sp.5 I think is aterimus.
