Re: Strange L-183 behavior (video and pics included)
Are you saying its curious that the female is caving? I have several pairs....and for sure most females avoid the caves except when interested in breeding. They usually hang out behind driftwood. I do have one though that I am pretty dam sure is a female but it always hangs out in a cave like the ...

I have some F1 183s I would part with. They are nearly what you would call 'young adult' I guess...right around the 3" mark.
I will PM you.

Re: FIsh and Stuff FS
Yes many cichlids are aggressive...and emperors are really aggressive I'm told. It is even hard to keep a mated pair together because of their aggression. here is an interesting video with them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo4KcsBN--A sorry I do not know their scientific name haha ya 200 tanks in ...

Hi Viktor... thanks for your interest I think the tank setup has been sold. We dont have the money in hand yet though but Im fairly certain its a done deal. Some of the fish may have been sold too. They are at my girlfriends house so I am not sure. Someone was suppose to come and look at them ...

Re: Ancistrus fry in community tank
Well....he did his job then haha. He put them where everyone else would have a hard time getting to them. Hes a good daddy lol. I guess in this situation youre gunna just have to let things run their course. I bet a good many of them survive if they can find enough food. It hard to say though since ...

Re: Ancistrus fry in community tank
I would worry most about the swords but Im sure everything in there might have a go at the BN fry when theyre at that vulnerable transition from yolk sac to out and about trying to feed. Personally I would not want a spawn of BN in a community tank. The best thing that could happen is most of them ...

Re: Can I breed pl*cos in a 29g?
The heater is for a 55g, if I have it on low it over heats the tank. If I bury it, it stays coolish (80*f). yah sounds to me like what I said above. That heater is heating up the gravel around it and shutting off prematurely before it has a chance to heat the water too much. junk it.....you are ...

Re: a pair of 3 foot channel cats, are they not?
well I dunno....my eyes must be off then I see two cats that are easily more than 3 times as long as a hand. I have no idea how big that hand is...but mine measures 8.25 inches from wrist to tip of middle finger. How long is your average brick? 9 inches? Those two fish could easily be pushing the 3 ...

Re: Can I breed pl*cos in a 29g?
Just noticed the placement of the heater - I'm pretty sure all heaters are supposed to be in the water column rather than in the gravel. Mats DOH... good eye. Yah I wouldn't try that I don't think. You really want the heater in a spot where it receives some water flow over it. It helps a lot to ...

Re: Breeding BN plecos
put some sort of cave facing the front of the tank where you can see in with a light...I like caves that are a little longer than the male and an opening about the size so that his pectoral and dorsal fins can touch the side when erect feed them well...I dont think its really needed but some say you ...

ok thx Mat I will try to get some better pics in the next few days. I dont know if the color in the photo is showing true or not. The spots are a copper color. One distinct thing that stands out to me is the row of larger spots along the top edge of the dorsal fin. Following the logic that they came ...

Last year I ordered 2 trios of 213s. Well when the box arrived I did get one trio of 213s...the other 3 fish was a 'reverse trio' of whats in the pic. This is a male...probably nearing 4 inches TL. I know it is only one pic...and not a great one at that. But can you tell what kind of BN this is from ...

Re: Bristlenose plecos
each type can be a little different...but usually by 2 inches TL you can tell who is gunna be male
sometimes females will get bristles around their lip...but if you see any bristles starting up on top the nose...its a male

I keep my discus tank temp at 84-86F
I know the sterbai enjoy warm water but is that too warm for them long term?

I just came into possesion of 2 Synodontis Angelica. In their eagerness to both kram into a cave made for one....and the ensuing effort to get them out... they got kind of roughed up abit. One especially sustained some substantial scuffs. Theyre not deep wounds or anything but they are more than ...
