Re: Need ID on an Auchenoglanis species (I think)

I'll pull this little guy out and put him in a glass container and try to get a bunch of better shots tomorrow as well as an actual measurement. Since I bought him when he was already 6 inches and he hasn't grown much since then, I don't know what he exactly looked like as a juvenile. I contacted ...

Re: Need ID on an Auchenoglanis species (I think)

yes, I have to agree its a hard one to pin down. The reason I went for Auchenoglanis tchadiensis is that it seems the only one where fin markings and colouration apply. You're not alone in that guess. However, I couldn't believe it, but the little guy sat around for a few pictures today. Hopefully ...

Re: Need ID on an Auchenoglanis species (I think)

The only reason I question that is that my little guys nose seems shorter. I might have to pull him out and get some actual good photos.

Need ID on an Auchenoglanis species (I think)

I have had two "Giraffe Cats" as they were sold to me almost two years ago now. When I got them, it was suspected they were different species due to very different patterns and growth rates. Now two years later, I have no idea what this little one is. His nose is quite short in comparison to my ...

Re: Sex my Queen Arabesque, Please!

Thanks for the input. :) Any thoughts on body shape or anything? I've been looking around, and have my thoughts on the matter. But, given that its going up for sale, I'd like to be able to sell it with some idea of what it might be.

Sex my Queen Arabesque, Please!

This is my wild caught queen arabesque. I picked it up probably 2.5 years ago from All Happy along with a couple leopard cactus plecos and an adonis that had all come in together. I couldn't get 'her' to lay flat on the bottom, so.... Let me know if you need more photos. http://i603.photobucket.com ...

Re: Spotted little baby, but not sure of the species.

You know, I didn't think to ask if they knew where the shipment had come from. That would have been potentially helpful. Part of me wants to go back and get him just to see what he turns out to be... Then there's the part of me that knows I've got my hands full already and fears that I have no idea ...

Re: Spotted little baby, but not sure of the species.

The biggest reason I haven't 100% gone with the Leiarius x TSN, is that all the others I have seen have the TSN white belly, which is missing on these two little guys. It's what I thought it was, but just am not 100% sure. I asked the LFS owner, but it came in with an invoice number only.

Spotted little baby, but not sure of the species.

Found a couple little guys at a LFS, but didn't buy this guy since I wasn't sure what he was (don't need to be overwhelmed later on). I thought this might be a hybrid, of which I have some real mixed feelings over... but God he's pretty and if he is a little monster would fit right in eventually ...

Re: Actually L260?

Thanks, everyone! :) My initial reaction was that these guys are not L260, but, I don't feel qualified to make that call. I have an L260 that I bought a while back at 1.75" that pretty much had its adult coloration, similar to apistomaster's experience. However, I hesitated with even this slight ...

Actually L260?

These are being sold on Aquabid as L260. They as supposed to be about a year old. Is this actually a correct ID?

Re: Florida's plecos

On the ID, you are right, it's a P. pardalis - the P. disjunctivus that it may be confused with has "reverse" pattern on the belly - so white spots on dark background, whilst yours clearly has black dots on white background. As to the size, we'd need a proper measurement photo in order to change ...

Florida's Plecos

Well, apparently there are common plecos thriving in the Florida canals. Just walking 20' I saw 4 hanging out by the edge. I happen to have picked up a large net the day before and decided I needed to catch on just to take a closer look. So, after about 20 -30 minutes and countless almosts, we ...

Well, honestly, I just feel very strongly about this type of response. So when all I see from someone is a criticism and an eye roll, rather than a ...

Re: The Shampupa Panaque Finally assigned as L418

Congratulation. This is why I stay a lurker, and many people don't want to post. I didn't say it was a classified species, but just that it was moving forward with a number. A L number acknowledging a possible species is more scientific than stuffing an * in instead of an 'e'. Guess what! I think my ...

Thank you. I had indeed identified the species using the local name, but had not found a scientific name or number assigned to it. Shampupa Panaque L418?

So, I am seeing this panaque recently listed as L418 in some places. I was wondering if this is accurate? I've been trying to get info on my guy for a long time and I've never seen an L number attached to this species, much less a scientific name. Any info about proper classification would be great.

Well, its an eyeballed guestimate, but I would say at least 10 inches. They are wonderfully fat and healthy. They are not in sand, but in small gravel. I am looking for sand. I've heard pool filter sand, but want to do a little more research before I just throw something in there. They've been ...

Re: Not a O.Niger!?! Its Blue with spots, but....!!!

Been a while but, yep. They (I ended up with a second one) got darker, and grew so quickly, it was awesome. They are currently living in a 180 gallon tank with 2 TSN, a TSN X RTC, a random fatty syno, 3 fire eels, a 16" giraffe cat, a smaller different species also labeled as a giraffe cat, and some ...

Not a O.Niger!?! Its Blue with spots, but....!!!

Okay!!! So, I've done a lot of looking, but an Oxydoras Niger is black. However, body shape screams at least close relative if not subspecies. Nobody has been able to tell me exactly what I rescued. I love my little (for now  ) weirdo, and I want to get all the info on him I can. http://www ...
