Funny thing is only 1 of them changed colour. The rest remains the same.

Re: L02 becoming parancistrus aurantiacus 'Xanto'

Sorry I can't provide before pictures cos I have 12 of them. So I really don't know which is which. But it's really like the pictures posted earlier and all 12 pieces looked similar, albeit the size and some finnages are shorter.

Re: L02 becoming parancistrus aurantiacus 'Xanto'

Yes, it's the same fish. Probably it was taken at an angle, thus giving false impression they are different. I have just tested the nitrate level, and it's pretty healthy at <5ppm. I have not got a PH test kit now, so will have to wait till tomorrow for me to get 1. Any other stuff I need to test ...

Re: L02 becoming parancistrus aurantiacus 'Xanto'

I am quite certain it's L02 as I have kept this group of 12 pieces for more than a year. I will try to take a picture of the remaining 'tiger' stripes that have yet to disappear on the dorsal fin.

Re: L02 becoming parancistrus aurantiacus 'Xanto'

But this fish looked exactly like this prior to the colour change.
Image

In fact, there're still some 'tiger' markings on the top of it's dorsal fin. So I'm really puzzled as to it's identity.

Re: L02 becoming parancistrus aurantiacus 'Xanto'

That piece in the picture is 1 of the L02 that I have in my group. It used to be in the normal L02 colour. But today I just saw it in this colour. So I am puzzled what had happened?

I had L128 instead. But I suppose they are identical in sexing. I find that venting is really diificult for me to sex them. They just looks the same to me. I looked at the pectoral fins instead. The male I suppose will be having long spikes, very rough. Female will pricky there, but much shorter ...

Hey man, to my surprise, I saw some L201 fry in the tank. I also saw 2 dead fry. They are of 2 sizes from half inch to 1inch. I can only spot a few though. Ok, here's more detail of the tank. - 200 litres tank filtered with eheim2078 and a tunze 6025 wavemaker to create some current. - 4 adult P ...

Re: growth rate of sturisoma fry in main tank and nursery

I have not transferred the fry to the grow up tank yet. But I have changed the nursery tank to a bigger sized one. I have actually 2 of these nursery tank, measuring 11inch by 13inch and the water level is about 4inch or so. What I did is I will transfer the fry from 1 nursery tank to the other on a ...

Re: growth rate of sturisoma fry in main tank and nursery

Hey, thanks for the advice. I have added in those 2mm sized Dennerle gravel. Any advice on how I can feed them in this grow up tank? Is it possible to just throw in those Hikari sinking pellets and the fry will find their way to the food? Cos currently I am feeding them powder food, which actually ...

Re: growth rate of sturisoma fry in main tank and nursery

The 10gal tank for the fry you mentioned, should I add in some gravels or should I just leave it a plain bottom tank? This size seems big as in floor area, so I am concerned how I should feed the fry. I am currently feeding them decap brine shrimp eggs, algae wafer in powder form, and tiny pellets ...

growth rate of sturisoma fry in main tank and nursery

Lately I have a batch of sturisoma fry, which I hatched in a nursery tank. This nursery tank was just resting on top of the main tank. I had a pump to pump water from the main tank into it, and the water will subsequently overflow back into the main tank. I had accidentally released 2 fry into the ...

Hey Mats, according to the Cat-elog, there're 3 species which looks similar to me. They are the Hypancistrus Sp (L201), Hypancistrus Contradens (no L number), and Hypancistrus Inspector (also L201, aka Snowball Pleco). I am a little confuse as to which I am having. The adult size of each are ...

For what I'll do is to get a PVC pipe with internal diameter enough for a cube of the frozen bloodworm to slip through. I place this PVC pipe, with length enough to reach to bottom of the tank. Then I just slip the frozen bloodworm into the PVC pipes. The worms will sink to the bottom when it ...

For mine, the female doesn't seems to learn how to stick the eggs on the glass well. It has been a few batches already, and all the eggs just fell to the ground.

Probably I will go to the store to look for some fresh ones. Thanks for clarifying.

I am not sure about you guys. I am from Singapore, an asian country. Whenever my parent cook mushroom for dinner, they will soak it over night in a tub of water before cooking. I reckon that is to soften it before cooking. In the process of soaking, the mushroom gives out a stench and I could see ...

Hi Eltofi, I understand your fry are kept in a nursery tank. May I know how do you maintain the cleanliness of it? Do you clean it every day?

I am just curious what is the best way to do this.

Re: leaving fry in the main tank to grow up...feasible?

Hi Richard, for this tank, I am running it with a eheim2260 filled up with Sera Siporax and Eheim Substrate Pro to the brim. At the same time, I am also running the ozonizer, hoping it will help to kill some parasites lurking around. To reduce the NO3, I have in place a nitrate filter, which ...
