Flyfish25, amazing photo! Their growth is nothing short of incredible. Mine ate all the zebra eggs and two batches of Taiwan Reef eggs so far. At about 10 days the catfish is are over 1/4" in length already. I would not have belived it if I had not watched it. Are you a flyfisherman? It is one of my ...

Thanks for the reply. The little bugger finished off the egg he was eating this morning and then after eating the fry off the top of the egg sac he actuall swallowed the whole P. zebra egg. Amazing, like watching a python eat a rat. Thank you so much for the information on BBS. He only has one of ...

Development of pre-release S. Multipunctatus fry
Now this is interesting! The last 5 days have afforded me the opportunity to watch a brand new, pre-release S. multipunctatus larval fry develop and feed. It has been fascinating to say the least. Here is how this happened. Last weekend while catching up assorted Mbuna fry and making the wonderful ...

Another Synodontis multipunctatus breeding
Today I was cleaning out babies that had built up in my 120 gallon corner Mbuna tank. When the 350# of rock work was removed so I could catch up about 40 babies of different flavor Mbunas, lo and behold, there was 1/4" baby Sunodontis multipunctatus among the Mbuna. These are a different trio of ...

When I bred my Multi's, hosted by Taiwan Reefs, the tank had a lot of rock work in it which allowed the Multis to lurk close the the spawning pit and zip in and out quickly without warning. Once he finally got the female started the 4 1/2" male Taiwan Reef was so focused that he probably did not ...

Birger, where did you get the section you quoted from an earlier post? It mentioned a lot more fry than I got and I wanted to read more about it. I guess I was under the impression the number of fry the cichlid host would release would depend upon how many catfish eggs it picked up. I had no idea it ...

Sidguppy, the parents are wild imports and look like all the multipunctatus I have seen. Silver sides, large dark spots black fins edged in white and white underside. Basic impression is a light fish with dark spots. I think the overhead view of the cameral aganist the white bowl make the babies ...

These things breed like rabbits . . .
I decided to see if I could breed albino bushy nosed plecos to save the money it would take to buy enough for the 22 (totaling a little over 1100 US gallons) African Cichlid tanks I have set up. Well now, 5 or 6 months latter I have baby plecos coming out of my ears. I have sold them, traded them ...

I'd think more of an issue than breeding sounds or scents, as I'd assume to a catfish a cichlid is pretty much a cichlid, you know they all pretty much look alike to a catfish VBG, is how agressive the cichlid is in defending it's spawning site. My synodontis multis were able to join in with the ...

Thanks, Paul. I fed them a blend of live microworms, finely powdered cyclopezee and baby brine shrimp. They appeared to pig out, little round balls for bellies like you discribed. They are quite active. I guess they are a lot more advanced than a baby cichlid when it is released. They are able to ...

Thanks. Duplication will be tell the tale. Once could be a fluke, but if the pair gets busy again then I may be able to raise a number of these little guys. It will take a number of repeat performances since the size of the broods is small. I got 8 but, I've read 5 or 6 is pretty common. Fortunately ...

Synodontis multipunctatus babies !
This morning, while working in the fish room, I noticed one of my female Protomelas steveni Taiwan Reefs had a couple of babies trying to get back into her mouth. The first impression was that these were really big babies. Closer examination revealed she had released 8 baby multipunctatus catfish ...

Fortunately mine were in about a 25% of sea water salinity and at 8.0 Ph when I found them and they seem to have aclimated very well to like water in the holding tank they are in now. African Mud Skippers
I know this isn't a catfish but, this forum has lots of members that are into the more unusual fish and I am trying to find out about these cool little fish. Does anyone know anything about the mud skippers or where I can go online to learn more about them? Thanks.
