Re: Corydoras Paleatus help!
You should get a QT. A ten gallon will suffice for a trio of C. paleatus. If you dont have any of the sorts, would you happen to have a spare rubbermaid you could use as a makeshift QT?

Re: Corydoras Paleatus help!
Perhaps you should try feeding protein-filled foods, like bloodworms or mysis shrimps. Also, you should quarantine the sick fish.

Thanks! I knew that C. paleatus was cold-hardy, but I just wanted to make sure.

57.5 deg. too cold?
I decided to keep three C. paleatus in an umheated tank. This morning (about 7:00 AM) I checked the temperature of the tank, and it was about 57-58 deg. Is this too cold for the fish?

Ah, I get it now. But what would you get if you get one albino gene and one calico gene?

Re: Calico BNs?
Thanks for the explanation, but I'm confused on why you can get Albinos from Calicos? Are the two color morphs related?

Re: Calico BNs?
Well, technically "Calico" is a heredetary genetic defect, so it can happen to nearly all fishes (Koi carp and Goldfish often have spots/blotches caused by a similar genetic defect). But the commonly available, the only one KNOWN to us, calico form is Ancistrus cf_cirrhosus . -- Mats What Kind of ...

Calico BNs?
I'm just wondering, but what species of BN are Calicos? I've heard of them being a color morph of the common BN. If so, how exactly do the genetics work out?

If it were me, I would keep 30-36 total sterbai in that tank and sell the others. Sterbai are a fish that don't go for cheap.

I got these at an auction, they are wild-caught fish. I would just like to make sure, since there are so many similar looking species.
EDIT: I know there are some Axlerodi with them too.

Sorry! I got them mixed up.corywink wrote:if you didn't mix up your nitrate and nitrite readings, then you should be concerned. A cycled tank should have zero nitrite readings and some nitrate reading. The nitrogen cycle is ammonia -> nitrite -> nitrate
