Re: Breeding behaviour in pygmy corys

I've got more of the same behaviour today, only instead of two males around a female, there are either three males and two females, or four males and one female (it's hard to tell - overall the sexual dimorphism is pretty clear - big, broad females and small slim males, but there's one fish that's ...

Breeding behaviour in pygmy corys

I am trying to convince my pygmy corys to breed (my father-in-law suggested Al Green music, but it didn't help much), and after a water change on Saturday night and a good storm system last night, they seem to be thinking about it, though I may be wrong. The tank is densely planted, so I rarely see ...

Re: Two WC Cories

Wow - I find it really hard to focus in on the differences without live fish to work from. Anyway, looking at the images (both here and in the Cat-eLog) and I correct in thinking that C. leucomelas has a shorter "face" than C. delphax & C. robustus?

Re: History of the Common pl*co [Hypostomus]

Our (Trinidadian) pleco is H. robinii. As best I remember, it's still exported, and it's still fairly common.

Re: In the doghouse

Oh the special occasions I have missed because I was out collecting. I am tempted to ask my wife because I am sure she remembers them all... birthdays, wedding anniversaries, the Christmas and New Years she spent in Venezuela taking care of me because I was down with Dengue fever. Worst thing I ...

Re: Unknown corydoras ID? Possible dwarf.

Interesting - I just got two of these from a tank of Otocinclus at Petsmart tonight. Maybe I should scour Petsmarts in the area to see if I can find some more of these guys.

Here are a few more pictures of them - are these any more useful?

Re: Please Help ID This Corydoras

I've been looking at a lot of images of Corys with this approximate form C. agassizii, C. ambiacus and C. melanistius (and probably others) all look pretty much the same to me. Is there some good way to distinguish them (other than "gestalt")?

Re:

was going to post pretty much the same question only with the addition of how did the corydoras get to trinidad. Compared to the above, this is dead easy. Apparently Trindad separated from South America around 11,000 years ago, and Corydoras were essentially modern at 50ma. There's actually some ...

Cory ID - C. pestai, perhaps?

I bought four alleged C. aeneus last year; one I'm pretty certain is an aeneus, one I'm pretty sure is a C. sterbai - and then there are two others. Based on the Cat-e-Log, they seem to be closest to C. pestai, but I really don't have a clue. Thoughts?
