Re: Pictus EMERGENCY!!! Please help!!!
do not cut his barbels please... they're the most sensitive parts of its body... could you perhaps upload some photo's so we can determine what's wrong with the fish? And also, sick fish need rest and will react badly to handling and transferring from one to another tank. best idea for now is to ...

Re: Hara jerdoni species tank- questions
a bit late this reply, but when i kept these i always used rain water for water changes. it could be worth your while to colllect some rain water and do some testing. usually rain water tends to be more acidic and soft compared to tap water. if rain water is not an option for you i would leave this ...

Re: What is the mysterious blue and red tail in the backgrou
good question i cannot answer it with 100% certainty but i think it might be a striking Panaque sp(l191) , possibly a young specimen. not blue and red in the caudal but white and orange. colors in the pic are probably corrupted due to the flash of the camera. but then again, it could be something ...

Re: Small catfish for an unheated tank
A. prashadi form cat-elog: 16.0-22.0°C i have kept Akysis in the past and they will do fine in an unheated tank as long as the room the tank is in is heated. your problem will be keeping the tank cool enough during summer. i lost all of mine during a hot period in summer, sadly. but i guess you can ...

Re: Local Catfish N. Indiana, USA
you can trust the ID done by Birger. the catfishes in your picture seem young and thus flatter. also it depends on how much and what they are being fed. color is never a great guideline in catfishes. color can and will vary greatly among individuals of the same species. many factors attribute to ...

Re: Peckoltias, Apistogrammas and caves.
you can use the caves you posted for the Peckoltia's. for the cacatuoides, i would use half a coconut. just buy one at the store, cut it through the middle and take away the coconut flesh. rinse/boil it or whatever to make it clean. then take a drill and make a small hole right on top of the half ...

Re: Pseudacanthicus setup? Advice please :)
most Pseuda's live in the main bodies of large amazonian rivers like Rio Xingu. sometimes these rivers are 40 feet deep or even more. little light reaches the bottom, so no plants are found there. Large boulders, smaller rocks and fast flowing water. the occasional dead log/wood tangle. thats about ...

i have been keeping adolfoi for the last 9 years. started out with 4, they bred multiple times and i have one of the original 4 still in my tank together with some of her offspring. I keep them at around 24-26 degrees Celsius and they always start to spawn beginning of spring and will continue to do ...

your fish is very skinny.
please provide it with fresh vegetables like zucchini or sweet potato at least once every three days. these fish eat the whole day in the wild and they can devour much more than you might think

Nice set up!
the rams are not rams but Mikrogeophagus altispinoza. very similar to rams though.
the tank could do with some wood and/or plants to provide a bit more cover for the fish but that is of course personal taste too. it looks great already!

First of all, i have been following this thread with great interest. thanks for starting it! as for the light question, there are several types of 'moon light' types of lights available for aquarium use. mostly as LED's. they have a nice blue color to it and most fish are not even slightly bothered ...

your fish is missing the white tips on the caudal so it is not L402.

Re: L66 Natural set up
You can basically use any type of river boulder you find good looking or easy to work with. just make sure to check if it's inert. I would recommend to get some large pieces of dark slate. looks good, is easily breakable and if you stack the pieces nicely, it's easy to recreate the crevices they ...

good news for your guppy mate! I once had to do small surgery on a Carnegiella myersi (smallest species of hatchetfish afaik). it had tried to swallow a mosquito larvae but the thing ended up being stuck in his gill. the unlucky fish turned to its side and was just floating there. i managed to ...

Hi and welcome to this forum :d I'm pretty sure your fish is Callichthys callichthys click the URL for info may I ask what size your tank is? looks very small to me... Re: How to safely add sand into my aquarium
I would do as racoll says, cleaning the sand is important for many reasons. about adding the sand, I always use a piece of plastic tube at least as long as the height of the tank and pour the sand through it. this way it is easy to divide the sand over the bottom of your tank and the water will stay ...

Re: Ancistrus an aufwuchs grazer?
I think there are two things to say about this right now: 1. your fishes recently moved tanks and territories still need to be made 2. they are probably taking advantage of some sort of food source they find in/on the leafs. most Loricariidae eat wood and those that haven't got the dentals to do so ...

your fish is a species of but with this genus it's very hard to narrow it down to a species level.
maybe someone else got a suggestion?
