Re: one more question on L239
Thank you. Know some of those de-wormers (use on the horse) and will look them up. Hopefully they will help. Will also keep offering him veg. and hope for the best!

Re: one more question on L239
Yes, he is still in Q (will not move him until I feel better about his health!) and have tank is fully furnished - plants, some wood, dark substrate etc. I was soaking everything in garlic but have since stopped as it didn't make him want to eat. I do think he may be a male but am not 100% sure. I ...

Re: one more question on L239
He hasn't shown a liking for zucchini - or any veg yet, though I will keep trying. He is just so skinny. I am not sure if it is because he is eating only enough to live or something else? I do realize I may not see him eat but thought he'd put on more weight by now.

one more question on L239
So my L239 that I got 2-3 months ago is still here with us. :D I have 2 or 3 more questions about him (and hopefully that'll be all!) Background: He showed some slight interest in food but didn't see him eat (didn't particularly expect to though). He then got ich and I treated with rid-ich + (per ...

Re: L239 help feeding
Thanks everyone. I wasn't feeding tons of meat - just thought I'd try it. I was feeding algae wafers very consistently. I THINK he is eating something - he is still skinny but I don't think quite as skinny. Of course since I don't get to see him eat, I can't be positive. I did go out and buy a ...

L239 help feeding
I have treated the L239 for ich, he is on the other side and now has no ich. However, I STILL cannot get him to eat. He showed some slight interest in food when I first got him but then he came down with ich and has not shown any since. I have tried: egg white on rock algae wafers and shrimp pellets ...

Re: ich on L239?
Yes I got the +. I have done the first treatment earlier in the day just as the instructions say. I really hope he makes it through OK.
I do also love these fish! I have one right now - but this one has a bit more blue. I really like these guys.

Re: ich on L239?
No - the tank has a black substrate. I was considering the salt/heat treatment but at 77*-78* my tank is already at the high end of their range so I can't turn the heat up much more - don't know if that would work. Am really looking for whatever is going to work the best while not being really harsh ...

ich on L239?
Just got a new L239. He is in quarantine (has been since I got him - maybe 4 days ago?). The second day I saw one spot on him but decided to wait it out - now he has quite a few (on his body - up by his head and maybe one on each fin). Is this ich, or something else? What is the recommended ...

Re: interesting...
 Good luck. When I got my blue - the LFS ordered 3 and mine was the only one who lived, one died in transit and one the day after I brought mine home. Glad that they are eating! :D I always relax a little bit once they eat! :) This is my dilemma for if I get more - They only order them for ...

Re: interesting...
Yes- and TDS meters are cheap! :D The TDS in my 125 is about 280. 240 out of tap! I am a due for a water change. I also had to use the egg white/rock to get him to eat, then weaned him onto pellets soaked in garlic which is all he would eat for 2-3 weeks. He eats fine now, though. Very nice and ...

Re: interesting...
It is sort of funny... I was going to use my 65 as a breeding attempt... :) but have decided I would like an individual pl*co with some fish I can actually see in the day  and so I will have my group in my 125 where my loner seems quite happy. I was also a bit intimidated by my water and how I ...

Re: interesting...
I have one in a 125... he has long odontodes also. He is not restless, though. I do hope to *eventually* add more should my LFS ever find them again for me! I don't hold hope to breed, but would like a little group of them. He has a rock 'house' that he loves very much. :D They may not be super ...

tips to ID chaetostoma
Just got 3 new chaetostoma to replace the one that has sadly vanished after almost a year :( . I am certain I have 2 different kinds- and THINK I have L187 sp (2) and L187b. Unfortunately I seem to not be able to get a clear picture of them :( Or perhaps I am just not good enough with cameras (OK, I ...

Re: blackwater tank
It just ate my post! At any rate- saw on another post these were blackwater fish, but am happy they are not true blackwater fish. I was already planning on wood, rocks & flow - so that is all good. No leaves. I live south of Houston, tap ammonia is 1. Ph levels out to 6.8 in both of my tanks (one ...

Re: blackwater tank
but if I use RO water, that will get me where I want, no? I was going to do part RO/part tap and just mixing it for every water change... I don't think I am adding any 'extract' to the tank - am going to try and recreate the habitat semi-naturally (oak leaves, etc.). Edit: I am SE of Austin... I ...

Re: Blue Panaque L239 info and breeding?
mine got skinny, too - the egg white and adding garlic to EVERYTHING for awhile was the only thing that worked - bloodworms, veggies, etc were ignored. He eats just about anything I put in there now, though. At first he only ate just enough to live, it seemed - just a little bit gone / you could see ...

Re: blackwater tank
Thank you all very much. :D I will look for a better way to test ph and I have been meaning to get a TDS meter, so now I will just have to get on it. Will have a goal to lower my Ph but not super low or anything, and will keep everything moderate. My water is fine for for - just a bit high in ...

Yep - I have already decided on doing some RO/distilled/rain water in this tank - for the reasons you stated - so I just need to figure the rest out. Re: blackwater tank
Driftwood isn't enough for me - I have lots of driftwood in my 125 gallon and my tank is nowhere near blackwater conditions. That is what I am asking - are those commercial products worth it? Does it stay stable? and for a Ph test that tests lower than 6?

blackwater tank
How best to set one up? I have read all different ways - just adding some commercially available product, oak leaves, peat moss in the filter. I think I will be adding some percentage of distilled water to my water to lower my hardness and ph (GH - about 9 Kh - 2-3 (it is hard to tell the colors ...

Re: What is your favorite pl*co?
I love my chaetostoma - if only he had an ID.. but I also LOVE my "rare" (not really, but not super common), too. I think you should look up what your fish needs BN, common, or anything else, so to me - a less frequently available fish doesn't HAVE to mean lots more work. (OK, some do.. but not all ...

Have you tried the egg white (I think it is the white?) mixed with some crushed pellets, dried in the sun - all plastered onto a rock that you then drop into the tank?

breeding L-239?
I have never purposely bred a fish before, so sorry if I am asking obvious questions. cat e-log says no reported breeding, but have seen some reports on web of people breeding them. I have a male, 5" SL - roundabout size. I am setting up a 65 gallon tank and was think I may try out my luck at ...
