museum on the chopping block

This was originally sent to me due to my entomological interests but it totally is something that will potentially effect us and we should be aware of it. I know there is some trepidation about signing these online petitions and I have my own as well but I think this is a serious enough issue that ...

Goo Obo Gudgeons

I recently acquired a pair of these cool little fish from a friend. Not as commonly seen as some of their larger cousins these fish are as colorful without the sometimes overly aggressive tendencies of the larger species. While my friend had them they spawned on a regular basis however the male ...

Re: Rineloricaria lanceolata breeding

I have not bred this species but I have kept them in the past Larry's advice about feeding is dead on. Mine were absolute total carnivores. They would touch nothing that wasn't meat or meat by product. They were so predatory that they ate baby fish if they could catch them. Good luck with them ...

Re: Tatia perugiae not eating

Larrys idea to give them a good treatment I think is right on. I have 6 of these fish and of the foods I have offered them frozen blood worms are by far the most eagerly taken. They wont touch any prepared type foods and halfheartedly take live black worms.

Panaque nigrolineatus for sale in Southern California

I recently came into possession of two Panaque nigrolineatus . These are long term fish which a friend had but for personal reasons had to let go along with the rest of his fish room. Anyway I ended up with them. I haven't measured them but they are 5-7 inches. So good size fish. Very healthy. I am ...

Re: pl*co loan service networking idea?

Not out of your mind especially. However breeding loans are very good ways to ruin friendships. You would want to have every detail of the loan agreement spelled out paper with signatures and the whole bit. Breeding loans are common in the reptile world and almost always cause more grief than they ...

Re: Ancistrus information, Pictures added??

No worries, I really do understand how hard it is to tell anything from these pictures. They were taken immediately after they were unbagged. I will try to get some better pictures next week when the person currently keeping them is back in town. I do agree that they are not a very inspiring fish at ...

Re: Ancistrus information ??

I finally have the fish in hand, well they are recovering at a friends house. Interesting little fish. I have taken a few pics that I will post once I have them off the camera, they are fairly uniformly tan color about 1/5 inches. The ones I take to be males have two small barely visible "tentacles ...

Re: Corydoras Hybrids

Sadly tis true that in entomology the subspecies concept is still quite popular esp among the beetle and butterfly crowd. However it is falling out of favor here as well. I one for one am glad to see it go. In the group I work on, (ants) there are numbers of subspecies to deal with which really ...

When buying play sand grit size is very important. I recently bought a bag of labeled "Playsand" at a "big box" home improvement center. The grit was so fine as to be almost dust. This is Silica and not a healthy thing to be breathing when working with the dry material. 30 grit is the smallest grit ...
